Brake pad choices

Hi,

My breakpad wear light popped on yesterday, so its time to get some new front pads.

I dont want to replace with standard pads, and ideally would like some which produce a little less brake dust, whilst still giving good braking performance.

Can anyone recmmend some good pads?

Secondly, I've often replaced brake pads on my cars myself, is it an easy task?

Thanks

Do you recommend the Deluxe, or the ULT pads? For me, I'd be primarily looking for low-dust. I use the brakes so little... :D

You will want one with a good breaking coefficient from cold temperatures then, I'm not familar with these pads but generally the more track and 'high performance' the pad then the less effective it will be from cold.

For everyday use...Deluxe. I've used these pads on 2 different Z4's. Very low dust.

I switched to the EBC 'greenstuff'. Superb pad, easily obtained in the UK, low dust and sensible for road use.

Decide what you want to do with the car. IMHO it's pointless moving to and overtly track/race biased pads if your just road driving as they take longer to warm up and become effective and are more prone to squeeling

Real easy DIY job.

I put the Axis Deluxe Ceramic pads on about 6000 miles ago and just love them. I did not go with the Ultimate because as Cj10 says, they take a long time to warm up (if ever) and function properly with street use.
The Axis Deluxe Ceramics are much better than the stock pads. They work well when cold, but get even better when hot.... and no fade....
A couple of the E46 guys on the local AutoCross circuit use the Deluxes and love them....

And, you lose all the black break dust.

If you do track your car, the ULT's are very good.

When at the track on our Miata, we have standard pads for the day to day driving, but pull them out and put in the racing pads when at the track.

I'm on EBC RedStuff, better stopping power over OEM stuff, but like what others have said, prone to the occasional squeeling..
