Brake overhaul COMPLETE pictures

Unfortunately I'm having the hardest time finding the bmw brake decals. They're all too big. Do you think I can use any custom made sticker or does it have to be high temp resistant? I'm probably going to clear coat over them if it makes a difference.

Do you have any tips or a quick how to on getting it done? I've painted my calipers in the past also, but wondering if you removed pads or the entire caliper to paint, etc.

Do the brake pad wear sensors need replacing if you haven't had a warning light come on by the time you change the pads?

I ask as I've found that on our e91 the car is too clever for it's own good and still requires you to change them even if you haven't worn them through. It has a two stage system that it wears through as the pads go down, is the Z4 the same or is it a more simple binary connected or broken?

I don't fancy ordering more parts than I need to...

Cheers

No - if it's not triggered you can keep it, but be aware they are fragile and you've a fair chance of breaking it when clipping into the new pad

Do what I did. Get some just in case but return them if you don't use. ECP have an extra 10% of this weekend so the can both be had for about £20. They will accept returns if you request it within 7 days of order.

Note you only need one sensor for front, and one for back! I nearly bought 4!

I bought 'BMW performance' ones and chopped them up. Though I bought high temps ones I'm not sure if there's any difference.

I had calipers and carriers off as I was changing the discs/pads. Otherwise I probably would have left everything intact.

Did some searching and it seems plenty of people put vinyl on to their calipers. I'm going to get them printed up on vinyl then clear coat over them. Will update if vinyl is a bad idea over time, though I don't track the car so theoretically I don't get the brakes as hot as they can get.

Buy calliper decals they are made of high temp material & are fine.I've fitted them to my last few cars over the years with no problem.

I don't see the point in attracting attention to lousy single pot floating calipers but hey that's just me...

Decent brakes look good as standard, usually coloured and with decals already.

Nothing worse than rusty calipers, just tidying them up.after the quality BMW calipers rusting after 3 months. :headbang:

My calipers seems to have a plasticky covering on them. Is this normal? Maybe just on the M or maybe just mine? :?

I just think it looks massively different with the brakes painted, and I have new wheels coming that will make it easier to see the brakes. Adding the BMW decal really sets it off in my opinion, and makes it look OEM instead of some cheap spray paint job.. even though that's what it is

Mine don't look rusty, they just look black as they're covered in brake dust. Given that's their natural state and it looks just fine (not hideous or overtly attention seeking) it works for me. Different strokes for different folks but I prefer go over show unless there's something to show.

How has surface rust not developed on your rotors? My calipers I don't see any rust, just brake dust as you say, but my rotors have developed surface rust. Do you never drive your car in bad weather?

Pagid coated discs, it's done at production so lasts better than the MTEC stuff.

I drive in all weathers but I'm not afraid to use it as a daily so it keeps it all fresh. Any surface rust from rain is quickly scrubbed away.
