Brake Judder - Warped Discs?

Been noticing some judder whilst braking from speed recently in my E86. It seems to have developed since I bought the car about a month ago. My first thought is that I may have warped the discs, but unless they're made of chocolate I don't really see how that's possible? I don't drive that fast, and I don't sit on the brake pedal at lights or anything for just this reason. Never warped any discs before that I know of either.

Anything else it could be? I only notice it when braking from speed (50mph+). Bushes of some sort possibly?

Will take it to a garage to get it checked, but I'm not looking forward to potentially replacing the discs (which are big and I'm assuming expensive). :cry:
 
Worn rear wishbone bushes (lollipops) can give those symptoms, they aren't really expensive & you can upgrade to meyle etc for more "feel" over comfort.

Cheers guys. Spoke to a mechanic who used to have an E46 the other day and his first thought was the bushes. If that's the case I'll get some nice Powerflexes put in. Got them on my Puma and they're great.
 
IMO I would fit oe or mahle bushes. Powerflex ruined my z3 far too stiff for road use. I removed mine & fitted oe ones,car drove far far better. :thumbsup:
 
Before doing anything else run a cleaning cycle.Clear road 60 to almost stop. Repeat 3 times and then drive to cool. Don't stop until done. Most issues like this are pad deposits on discs.

If no improve the then star the component swap out.

Btw -lots of post on bushes. Some like, most don't as they make the z4 too harsh. Meyle HD is the favoured swap out by those not going poly.

Hmm, cheers for the heads-up guys. I might still give them a go, as I can probably get them cheaper then OEM due to working for a supplier. As I say, I've had them on another car, and ... I don't mind a hard ride :oops: :P
 
I had my E86 and the brakes stuck/warped after one particularly spirited drive out with the club. Combined with knackered wishbone bushes, handling was.. entertaining under braking. New discs, pads and bushes later and all was much improved.
 
Wouldn't be the first time I'd seen pads that weren't properly seated or retaining clips missing, allowing the pad the jiggle about. :) Always worth checking the simple stuff first...
