Brake Force Display - How to enable?

Since seeing it on another thread I have been doing some reading to try and find out how to enable the BFD for the E85.

I believe it is possible, however have no knowledge of working with the car coding software to prove it or anything.

Is there anyone more knowledgeable in this field as to how to switch it on, if you can?

Would dump it on a dealer and ask them to do it, but they have proved to be more than useless with coding the car in the past :)

Edit - Some reading around leads me to believe its a default option, if anyone could also confirm :P?

Yeah, all you need to do is brake really, really fucking hard - in my experience it happens when ABS kicks in :driving:

Just curious how you know it is not working ....

Do you brake, run out of the car, and check the lights? :D

Stick a go-pro on the back, then pretend there is a speed trap on the road and watch the film back :D

I am able to confirm that it works on quite a few forum members' cars whom I have followed on meets

I believe it can be coded with NCS as it's on the code sheets that covered cables I had, but coding was beyond me so I sold the cables on

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can explain more :)

Under certain conditions - I think when ABS engages, certainly under very heavy braking - brake force display is activated. As well as the normal side and 3rd brake lights, with headlights off :

On a prefacelift the whole circles light up (assuming you've not modded it to do that anyway) as do both fog lights

On a post facelift the 'bars' light up as well as both fog lights.

This is why you have two fog lights but only the off side is used as a fog light. It's all in the manual :P

It's a stupid idea because unless you know about it it means nothing to you. I was following a 1 series coupe tonight and the first time I saw his brake come in it was with BFD. I only know this because I had to pull up hard behind him and checked the next time he braked.

Flashing lights are much better as it clearly indicates something is happening.

Bing what is this 'manual' you speak of?

Srhutch, I've seen clips of the face-lift z4 under bfd, the fogs come on and the normal lights flash. I think I will have to get someone to watch the back of my car and see what happens.

I wonder if the solid or flashing lights is a coded option as I know some cars have two of three different stages of bfd

Don't think you will find they flash, just light up like the rest.

Two stages = normal brakes lights, brake harder more brake lights.

Yes, solid only.

On the Porker, the indicators flash and the rear spoiler comes up.

About 50 seconds into this one is the best demonstration

If it has to do that repeatedly does it eventually eject you for driving like an asshole and return the car to the dealer ?

BTW, correction to above ... The prefacelift doesn't have 2 fogs.

Only tested on the Porsche Experience day, so not my car - so therefore indeed returned to the dealer at the end of the day :D

And yes, it was driving like an a-hole during that day indeed 8)
