brake fluid

Quick boring one guys, sorry as I don't have my service booklets with me etc, but car is in for an oil change tomorrow (inspection 2 was last August, 1 year ago). They are looking at a few warranty bits and pieces at the same time.

Car is on 47k

They just called me at work to say the car has been flagged up as being due an aircon refresh (i politely declined), but that it is due a brake fluid change also. Hearing brakes, I agreed to it on the phone, but when I put the phone down it dawned on me they are probably phishing for business ..... I can't see it needing the brake fluid change 1 year after inspection 2 surely? I will put it through inspection 1 next year as per the calender.

Cheers Beedub, thought as much but couldn't check my book. SO they are trying to fleece me there with inspection 2 being down last August :rtfm: Not a good start

Hmm. I'll have to check my book when I get back now, I thoguth they did it at isnp 2 for some reason. I can see this little visit costing as much as inspection 1 at this rate if i agree to everything :?
 
Guarantee your fluid wasn't done as part of inspection 2. Will see if i can find a check list.

Edited for below...suppose it depends if it was done on your last inspection 2.

Inspection II

1. Undercarriage

 Half-shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots.
 Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty. (Must be performed at least every two years).

2. Engine Compartment

 Replace spark plugs.
 Replace air cleaner element. (Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions).

3. At Every Second Inspection II

 Change oil in manual transmission while at normal operating temperature.
 Change oil in rear axle while at normal operating temperature.
 Check clutch disc for wear.

4. Brake Fluid Service (Replace brake fluid every 2 years (time interval begins from the vehicles production date)

5. Cooling System Service (Replace coolant every 3 years (time interval begins from the vehicles production date)

6. Oxygen Sensor Service (Replace Oxygen Sensor every 100,000 miles)
 
Cheers Simon! I've just got home , and got through booklet out. Seems it was 8 months late for a brake fluid change last time round, so they did it with its insp 2. So hopefully the garage will be ok about when I turn up and say it doesn't need it doing :-s I'll tie it in with insp 1 next year.

Coolant isn't changed at any point and brake fluid is every teo years regardless of mileage, where as inspection services are done on mileage and not time.
 
Resurrecting an old topic, my brake fluid service is due this month and I was wondering if it was done as part of my recent Inspection 2. According to the sheet I have there are a few things listed as being part of the Inspection, but there is a note stating that they are subject to a seperate charge. They are:

Recharge of battery
Coolant level top up
Brake Fluid
Brake Pads

Not sure how that tallies with the experience of others above.

nothing wrong with that at all.


i over service looks weird in the service book seeing so many stamps on a 12k mile car but i don't mind and its piece of mind, this year I've got quite apt of preventative work to do, including some vanos line work, coolant hoses, caps etc.

As above Mark it's not part of the Inspection or oil services. It's a separate service item and should be done every two years. You should have separate stamps in your service book for the brake fluid changes
 
That's what I thought Steve, and have had the brake fluid service done in 2009, 2011 & 2013, just wanted to mention it in case people thought it was part of Inspection 2
 
I note recharge the battery!
I suppose they'll run it twice around the block and then invoice £30 for the pleasure! It'll be fully charged during the 1/2 run to the garage I would say!

I remember when the dealer wanted to charge me when I was claiming for a new battery. I told the SA just to do it and I would fight them about it after. As it happened they gave me a new battery so there were no charges.
