Last year I bought a 2003 Z4 2.5i. I put it back on the road a few weeks ago with zero isssues. Yesterday I started the car, only to be greeted by a warning light for BRAKE in red and figured whatever it is that detects the parking brake being released is shot. But then the symbol for the DSC also came on. I figured I had an issue with a sensor but the manual said it may be the brake fluid level.
Once I opened the hood it was obvious that the wire broke off flush from the plug that goes into the reservoir. A few inches down from the plug, the wire looked like it had been pinched before and when I brought the broken wire up to the plug it was pretty much no slack in it whatsoever. I'm thinking that the original plug was one of those one crimp & done type plugs. so I'd just go on line and get a new plug and splice in a piece of wire for slack and be done with it. And if it was too much trouble getting a new plug, I would just solder a piece of wire into the back of my old plug, splice it and go.
After not finding anything on line I called a dealer who said that 'plug' is considered part of the wiring harness. So I am now wondering about the size/type of wire running to that plug? He also said if I were to successfully do it myself, I would get an error code a dealer would need to clear.
I was hoping to tinker with my bucket list toy myself and not have to pay big bucks to the dealer for a very small repair.
If anybody can pitch in their 2 cents on that 1) brake reservoir plug, 2) the wire type/size or 3) the error code, It would be most appreciated.
