Brake fluid change not included in Service 2!!!!!!??

Hi all,

Just a quick one, I was astounded when I turned up at cooper ipswich to pick up my car from its inspection 2 to be told that it needed brake fluid change!! Surely that should have been done on the £419 service!!

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew, good to see another Ipswich member. I have used Mark at Hemingstone B.M.W. For the last 5 years. Genuine and labour costs half Coopers prices. I hope this helps.

I don't know about all models, but on the M value servicing website it says "At the corresponding interval brake fluid is replaced (every two years at the latest).**"

The ** leads you to "Additional costs may apply, for further details please contact your dealership"

I'd expect them to call you and advise if it needs doing or advise during booking in as they'll likely have access to the car's service history

It's not included as far as i'm aware.

My local indy doesn't include it and you need to pay extra for it.

Thanks very much for all the responses. It seems like it isn't normally included. Bit annoying but oh well.

CSM likewise will hopefully see you driving around in the near future! I have used hemmingstone as well but the one in Nacton road (strange I know). I'll go there next time though, thanks again for the advice mate

Andrew

It wouldn't be included as the service is based upon mileage and time and the brake fluid every 2 years, so would not tie in with services.

The dealer should really do the service and call you to advise that's also due.

In Western Australia we only have 1 BMW workshop. I took my Z4 there and told them to replace ALL fluids. When I returned to collect the car the dumb but delightful young assistant told me they had checked the brake fluid and the level was OK. The fluid had been in the car almost 2 years by then and it would be almost another 2 years before the next service date. When I complained - loudly - I was told they would do the work and it would cost almost $1k extra. That was the last time I darkened their door.

$1k :o

I think my brake fluid change cost me about £60, but can't remember for sure as it was done at the same time as a bunch of other stuff that coincided with the indicator telling me it was due.

Holy crap...that's £566.00 , are you sure she didn't move the decimal point by mistake ??

That figure is so far off the scale it's either an error, meant to be for all fluids (still too expensive) or designed to get rid of a complaining customer.

Makes me glad I do mine with a litre of fluid for a tenner...

Hmm..

I had my 3.0 SE Z4 serviced, at BMW Sytner Sutton Coldfield last week.. She was in for an Inspection 2. Cost of that, I negotiated to just under £400.

I was cordially offered the option of the "Brake Fluid Change", at £137.69p (inc' VAT)..
I pondered and had it done - simply as the BMW FSH, remains 100%.. The cost, I did think was a tad expensive, - but hey: Brakes are priceless, IMHO..
