Just been quoted £220!!! by the stealers for a brake fluid and coolant change. How much should this cost and how important is it in reality? Seems like a money spinner to me, theres no way I'm paying £200+ for a bit of coolant and brake fluid.

Wow sounds steep

Brake fluid and coolant under £50

Probably under an hour to do it
I would of thought an indy would be much cheaper than that although quite an easy job to do yourself

WOW - which $$$$tealer is this?

I had this done on my M 3 weeks ago for 67 inc vat @ a dealer - this was in conjunction with an Oil Service!

It was Vines at Gatwick, only other specialist I know of in the area is James Paul in Horsham. But theres no way I am paying those kind of prices for a bit of coolant and brake fluid. Anyone know where to get the exact coolant and brake fluid and I might give it a shot myself. I think it's a money spinner but it will affect the resale if its not done every 2 years

Why changing the coolant?

I had an oil and brake fluid change last month and the dealer checked the concentration of the coolant but it's not an item that has a service interval.

They need to access both the engine block and radiator plugs for a full coolant change. I would think that particular service could require about 2 hours of labour, but I could be wrong.

Since 2004, BMW says the coolant is "lifetime" unless it gets contaminated. Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years because it's hygroscopic and deteriorates.

I had the brake fluid changed in my xj at a local mitsubishi main dealer last week for £24.99 inc a wash and vacuum all done whilst you wait taking the Z4 in next week once I have finished changing the disc's and pads.

DIY its piss easy.... other than that id recommend a good indy like lichfield imports / simpson motorsport...

It does seem that BMW have extended the brake fluid to 3 years now on newer cars. My 2011 E87 is every three years.

Just booked both my Z4M and my M5 in to Scotthall Hampshire for brake fluid changes. Was quoted "about £80" for the M5 and "about £70" for the Z4M.

(Both cars have full BMW service history and are covered under BMW Extended Warranty, so I need to have servicing done by main dealers).
