It's not the point if you can feel that, its the point if that chimp can feel that.
Torque values vary greatly between bolts and brake systems. A torque value is not (generically speaking) dependent on the bolt diameter, but also on its TPI.
So that means that a bolt torqued down with less torque doenst have to sit less secure.

I mean the torque difference between the caliper carriers of my bmw and my volvo is almost 100Nm (!!). (110Nm on the one car, 200Nm on the other one)
It's not only knowing what 100Nm feels like but also if you need to go to 100Nm or 200Nm, and yes, the differences between cars can indeed be that much on brakes with similar size.
Do you feel secure when a bolt is torqued to half its spec?

Same goes for wheel bolts, some cars need 80Nm, others need 150Nm. A porsche carrera GT3 needs 650Nm or so... :lol:

Hey , I was just trying to save the op a bit money and give the guy the satisfaction of doing the job himself . He's probably decided to pay a garage to do it now even though it's just basic nuts and bolts mechanics , Will you be quoting for the job ? :lol:
And be careful out there guys , anti slip on the hub could affect the torque settings when the hub gets hot after heavy braking , it could cause the wheel to come loose and fall off , or the heat factor could cause the hub and wheel to expand so much the wheel could explode :rofl:
As I said , I've never had a problem in 34 years of home mechanics , if anyone else is thinking of doing a bit of spanner work get stuck in , it's not rocket science , it's nuts and bolts , use common sense and you'll be fine .
Obviously I'm joking about the anti slip , just before any of the experts on here feel the need to post on the temperature scope of alloy , cast iron , and whatever else they've read about , I only ever answer a question if I have actual real world experience of the solution , not what I've heard or read , I don't doubt guidos ability , he's obviously a very experienced mechanic and has very high standards of workmanship .
The chimp - adjustable wrench analogy is just saying it's an easy job , guidos not British and probably misunderstood my sense of humour

If you use spanners it's actually very difficult to over torque a bolt as they are sized to make sure its difficult too apply to much leverage.

Whilst torquing a bolt with a torque wrench is ideal, any half decent home mechanic can change brake pads without using a torque wrench without making the car dangerous.
