Brake discs

Stupid question but here goes.
Between the wheel and the disc is a part
On mine grubby.
About 2 inch deep on front and rear is that part of the disc.
If not what is it called thanks.
Having new discs this week and will change if not part of disc .
Thanks

If I understand you correctly the item you refer to has a radius edge against the wheel this is part of the disc and permanent fixture of the disc. I assume you are fitting standard type OEM discs .If you are fitting them your self you could spray the new disc just on the area you mention with silver spray (be sure you mask all other surfaces) this then will keep its appearance looking good. I did this 3 years ago when I fitted new discs and they still look good today.

Thanks bazza.
No mintec slotted going on.
Just in the picture of discs it does not look that deep.
So wheel goes direct to disc .thanks

There is always the possibility that a previous owner could have fitted wheel spacers and that may be what you are seeing. You will know when the wheels come of.

if you have spacers, throw them away. They ruin the cars geometry, they do nothing to improve handling and overstress all of your joints and steering rack.

Spawny Lad are you referring to the piece that I have marked out in the photo?:

Cant have grubby discs behind my new wheels

So if you are replacing the discs with new ones, you won't have to worry since that part in my photo is part of the disc. Of course if the new ones are aftermarket that bit of the disc might look a bit different since mine in original BMW.

Thanks mate.
Yea thats what i wanted.you can see more brake with my new wheels.
Ive bought that new centre part of caliper that goes rusty .for when they fit new discs /pads on friday.
I was thinking of painting clipers black after.
With good masking up.

Apparently, manufacturers leave the hubs bare to maximise heat dispersal.
