Just after advice folks,

Looking to replace the disc's all round in the new year, (got a sticking calliper and the discs look worn so i think a refresh is due) the car isn't used that hard and no track days so....... my first choice would be Brembo drilled discs with std pads, i want the drilled for appearance as much as anything,

1)anybody any other preferences such as Tarox or EBC???

2) any to avoid ?

2)is it as straight forward as i think to do the job myself ? a days work ?

3)are the pad wear sensors part of the pad itself?

4) any resets need after ?

thanks in advance

I'm also looking at swapping fronts and rears.

Couple questions from any experience:

Do drilled make the same noise as grooved? Mine are grooved when bought and not sure I like the noise / feel. Maybe prefer flat discs.

Would these be any less capable than similar priced Brembo discs from ebay? (About £220 for the full set)

Hi

Just changed my rear springs, all 4 discs and pads:- http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32763

Its very easy, the brake sensors just clip in, so if the brake light has not come on yet then will be fine to use again.

I bought all my discs/pads from Autoparts and I changed my drive belts at the same time too

All disks with grooves or drilled make noise. Grooved much more than drilled though. They tend to settle down over the first few hundred miles but can still make some noise. If you want silent braking stick to plain disks.

I'm looking at buying these matching Brembo discs and pads for the rear as they are looking very crappy and rusty. Only concerns are buying from ebay, but it seems like a legit seller. £140 all delivered.

Discs: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290358976466?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Pads: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330502471820?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

UPDATE:

From another Brembo supplier: http://www.apbrakediscs.co.uk/ £120 delivered.

Looks like that's just rears for that money, I thought you were looking for both front and rears? Kermits recommended supplier was 180 for a full set, so the Brembo are certainly at a premium. Would you want to mix front and rears?

Yeah, thats just the rears. I've had a closer look at the fronts and while they're grooved which I didn't like feel of at first, they don't look like they need changing just yet.

Kermits recommended supplier is just selling unbranded kit, while cheaper, are they as good?

I suppose it would be good to swap all at once, but I want to have OEM or slightly better performance.

Agree with OEM standard or above. I hadn't noticed that they were unbranded, I guessed they were bmw OEM. I was thinking to myself how cheap they were, my car had all discs and pads replaced at bmw (park lane) at a cost of nearly £800! Inc labour. CRAZY!

Done some googling of mtec and all the reviews are positive. Only negative is the squeel from mintex pads.

Also, 15% off code here: MTECBRAKES15

Think I'll stick with the Brembo's though, for peace of mind.

Sensors will clip into any pad if you haven't damaged them and don't lose the spring clip. New ones on ebaybat about £6 each. Need only 2.

Brembo pads are more dusty than some. You might want to consider EBC if you want performance and low dust pads.mgreen or red depending on your preference. Many here use them.

Hi Gents have spoke with mtec a few times over the years & it appears they manufacture for all the OE`s. I have used them on my last 3 cars with no problems.Used to always use genuine BMW parts, but a freind told be about mtec so gave them a shot & now cant fault them.Pads dont create as much brake dust as OE pads.I have drilled & grooved discs & you cant really hear any noise.Hope this helps !

Let me know how u get on ! Phone them & mention the forum & ask them for a deal ! If i remember right i payed £180 for front & rear drilled & grooved discs & mintex pads delivered.

I posted a 15% discount code on page 1 of this thread

I bought the Brembo discs and pads for the rear :)
