Brake discs/calipers - too much choice!

So I want to get some new discs and possibly calipers. More for aesthetic purposes than anything else (vain I know!).
Ever since having a Porsche, I now have this obsession with big drilled and grooved discs and fat colourful calipers filling up the gaps in the alloys! Without it....it just looks naked!
So I've read a load of posts and there's people for and against everything. Initially I was going to go with Mtech drilled and grooved with the protective coating (filled the basket up & was about to pay). However then I read a load of posts on a different forum with people complaining about the noise & vibration the grooves create & that mtech discs are poor quality & are prone to rusting after 6 months even with their coating protection, warping etc. I appreciate there's always going to be bad reviews but having read over 10 saying the same thing more a less, it kinda put me off! I know quite a few of u on here have mtech, Will u stick with mtech once your current set need to be replaced? Anyone have the drilled and grooved option & if so is it noisy & does it cause vibrations?

In terms of discs if anyone has any recommendations on drilled and grooves discs that have done them well please share. Budget wise I don't mind going upto £300 a pair if they're good discs that are going to last me a while & not cause any unnecessary headache!

Calipers fitted with dust seals (so perfect for street application), comes with steel brake lines and choice of 4 colours at no extra cost.
And they have front and rear sets for the z4. (if I look at the website a non floating 356mm 6 pot front/330mm 4 pot rear set will set you back about £2300)
These are imho probably the best value for money as far as off the shelf kits go.

Keep in mind that you'll probably need 10-15mm spacers up front (depending on the wheels you have) to clear the front bbk calipers.

Don't forget, that the coating is only going to work whilst it's in place. Once you've used the brakes a few times that coating is going to disappear and you'll get surface rust anyway. The only way around it is to use the car daily, and make sure the discs are dry before you put it away for a while.

The coating on Pagid discs lasts and does keep the rest of it looking much nicer. Really is no point going for drilled or grooved on a road car.

Regardless of the engine model you have the brakes are really good on a Z4. If there due a change its worth a think about this bellow as a performance and visual upgrade.

This is something thats been nagging me for ages and finally iv got around to it.
The standard 2.0lt Z4 brakes perform well BUT for vanity reasons i wanted to change them, especially since fitting the ZM wheel's last Summer.

I found a guy on ebay selling a pair of BMW 3.0lt front callipers with carriers and snapped them up for £70. He assured me they where ready to bolt on and had only done 40k miles, i already knew id rebuild them, but when they arrived and sound dead spiders and cobwebs in them so i guessed maybe they had only been on a car that had done 40K but they must have been on a shelf for 2 years, lol!




So i too them apart, wire brushed them down all over, removed the piston and the seals, washed them in Washing up liquid, left them to dry and then sprayed them with silver Halfords calliper paint and left them to dry over night.



I also found these bad boys on ebay for £100 delivered.




Last night i started removing the drivers side and finished that, and then finished the whole job of this afternoon.





Bosh! Job done, im really chuffed, to me it makes such a big visual difference


Excuse the front bumper damage, some C*@t did that in a car park and drove off, thats my next job to sort.

I think painting calipers might be a "soon" job but it'll be a in situ job, with a brush most likely!
