Brake disc replacement cost

Hi

My 30i E89 is going to need new brake discs and pads all round before much longer. There seems to be a huge variation in the price of the disks - a BMW indy and a non BMW indy both quoted about £115 per front disk and half that for a rear, plus a couple of hours' labour for fitting, whereas a bit of casting around on the net suggests they can be got a lot cheaper, e.g. £33.50

These are (supposedly) Ferodo which should be a decent manufacturer, while other ones are available for even less from manufacturers that I've not come across before.

I'm not looking for the gerbil's whiskers in braking performance, just OEM standard is absolutely fine with me and I may (sob sob!) have to sell the car soon so I don't want to go overboard on cost. While I know that the indy has to put a margin onto the bits they fit, the huge difference in price suggests that I might not be comparing like with like here. Does anyone have any useful experience?

Whatever you buy, remember to paint the (horizontal surfaces of the) rear disc hubs, especially if you're going to sell the car.
 
Euro Car Parts frequently run 50% off brakes promotions, best to keep an eye out for a discount code with them, or join their mailing list.

I got a Full set of Brembo disks and pads for £200 delivered.
Still not fitted them yet, and ordered two years ago!
 
Euro carparts have n Easter promotion on until midnight tonight. It worked on brake discs when I entered my registration number a few minutes ago, 50% off discs. Promotion code is EGG80.
 
I have some stop tech street front brake pads that I bought for my 35i (from an American website) not realising that the US 35i brakes are the same as the UK 30i and not the UK 35i... happy to sell them on to you if they would work for the pads portion of your quest.

EBC brakes are a good supplier.
Don't get dragged into the money wasting drilled, slotted items for road use OEM combined with Ferodo DS2500 pads is a very good combination.

Extra for anti corrosion painted but Hammerite smooth silver seems to work fine - unlkess you are very heavy on your brakes and cook them regularly.
Mine have been fitted for a year with Mintex pads,- not run into anything yet!
 
Swapped my fronts recently discs, pads and grease with protective coating on the discs from MTEC £105.00 delivered.
I was going to fit them myself but the car was due an MOT mid March (missed the cut off for the 6 month extension) MOT garage fitted them for £40.00. Still bedding them in as haven't used the car much since so can't comment on performance , but i've read good things about MTEC kit.

ECP have moved on to their next promotion use “MID60” if you are still looking.
 
I changed Discs Pads on my 2009 S Drive 3.0i admittedly 3 years ago after punting around but I bought from Euro Car parts
as follows
Part No 10111052C front brake pads Ceramic
101110778 rear brake pads (Pagid) OEM
104111548 rear disc ATE (OEM)
104111798 front disc ATE (OEM)
Dont forget you will probably need to change the sensors as they do not take well to being refitted but they are not expensive
106110808 front sensor
106110818 rear sensor
Not sure what there discount is today .Ceramic pads bit expensive but reduced brake dust considerably.

I've done a bit more digging, including the use of the RealOEM.com website to find out what was on the car originally. It looks like all the cheap discs are 300mm diameter whereas the more expensive ones are 330mm, and realoem says it was fitted with 330mm disks originally. If that's the case then the Indy prices are actually pretty reasonable as I don't see how the 300mm discs would fit properly and the 330s are much pricier.

It seems odd though that Euro Car Parts, and a fair few other websites, are offering me the 300mm discs when they aren't going to work (reg number of the car is being used to identify it). And with Euro offering me two front discs and pads for 80 quid the lot it's almost worth trying them to see if they would fit (but with brakes you need to be sure, which I'm not, so I won't).

With ECP - if you look under fitment detail for the various discs listed under your reg you will should see they the 300mm 330mm and 348mm discs
same with the E85 there are different discs listed under a reg - the 286mm and the 300mm.
They are NOT interchangeable between sizes - - they Might "fit" but the pads wont align.

I checked my reg on Euro parts for front discs and it came up with 300mm dia which is of course wrong .But the euro part no as per my previous post will take you to the correct 330 mm disk (but not 80 quid though)
 
ECP are notorious for supplying low quality items.
For example, on my last car I changed both wishbones as the were knocking and joints were installed at manufacture. One was from a supplier I know well and use regularly, the other from ECP because my usual guy only had one in stock (he told me not to buy from EPC).
Well, the good one was still on the car and fine when i sold it, the ECP one lasted for about 10 months, i took it back with receipt and got another, it lasted about the same amount of time then I took that one back, the next one lasted about a year!!!
Lesson learned
 
I’ve just paid £201 to my local BMW Indy (Infinity Swindon) for Pagid rear discs and pads fitted, which seemed reasonable.
 
Consider slotted discs, my car discs were badly worn at 40k, fitted slotted and drilled discs now at 86k and wear is about half the original disc with next to no scoring, with EBC pads. Also very little if any noticeable brake dust.
Previous set up you thought there was a coal mine in there.

Which discs and EBC pads did you use? My rears are going to need replacement in the near future, as you say the standard pads create a stupid amount of brake dust.
