Brake Disc and Caliper Replacement - Do I Need To Open Bleed Nipple?

I want to have a go at doing my own discs and pads. I've done it previously with a friend, but it was a few years back.

Can someone tell me if I have to open the bleed nipple to do the changes? I've got a piston wind back tool so does that need the nipple opening to move?

I'm concerned if I do open the nipple I'll need to bleed the brake lines and without a pump not sure I can do this.

Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers,

You don't need to open the nipples, just the cap on the reservoir. Be careful it doesn't overflow.

Not a bad idea to bleed the system though if it's not been done for a while, and everyone likes playing with nipples. Unless they break!

Thanks buddy. Was boring the wife telling her what I was doing. She all of sudden became interested when nipples were mentioned. :)

No need for wind back tool, the pistons are push in.

Use good quality tools for the disc retaining bolts, as chewing these up is a PITA. I’m pretty sure that the caliper mounting bracket bolts are 16mm, the fronts on mine were very very tight, rears were fine.

I broke me nipple.

Only £25 on eBay for another so I'm not too fussed.

So will you be Scaramanga when the third one arrives

Also noticed there was only problems with your nipples once you got your Mrs involved

I did tell her all that nipple talk got me a bit giddy so it was half her fault and she had to pay 50%, to which she said that will be the only nipples I'll be seeing if I ask her again to pay half.

Needless to say I quickly paid for it myself.

I bought a pair of newly refurbished calipers for not much more than £25!

I only need the one caliper so it didn't seem too bad, and included 2 day free delivery.
