Brake change discs and pads

Hey guys

I want to change the brakes and pads myself
Did a search but mostly came up with big brake upgrade which I don't want to do.

So I have changed pads and discs before (on my van) but concerned if there is any kind of electronic sensor that may need resetting??

Theres one front and rear. They only need replacing if they have activated. If not you can re-use them.
 
nope, front brakes are pretty standard and easy to do... only connection is the brake pad sensor.

rear ones are a little harder mind you (IMO)

Nope nothing that needs resetting

You have pad wear sensors, one on the front and one on the back, that if you have worn the pads down to them you get a light on the dash. But changing the sensor resets it

If the light isn't on you can reuse the sensor but most people change for new ones as they are under 10 quid each and probably not worth the hassel of not changing them

But a pretty straight forward job, if your gonna do the rears as well dont forget the hand brake shoes too while your at it

Changed my front discs and pads late last year, no surprises, very straightforward.

A good fitting 16mm socket or ring spanner to remove the caliper carriers, which are very very tight! I had to hook another ring spanner over the open end of the 16mm for more leverage.

Might also be worth have a couple of spare locating bolts incase the originals chew up. They're about £1 each.

Ok so no light is on atm.
I should be able to tackle the fronts then

I did watch a you tube video on a guy I think ( ask the experts) doing an e46 change, In which he changed the sensor wire - un clip small black box under arch area.

The rears ok so how do I tackle the E brake?

I wouldn't know mate, I do have pull the handbrake lever fully up otherwise it rolls back
But could that be adjusted perhaps
 
Sorry missed your reply, calipers and carrier's off like the front, then you have to look through the bolt holes on the hub (with the disc still in place) you need a long flat head screw driver that fits in the bolt hole, you should be able to see a little cog thing through a hole, you may need to move it slight, I think about 2 o'clock, with the screw driver spin the cog one way tightens the hand brake shoes the other way loosens them, loosen them right off the disc now comes off

Two alen bolts hold the shoes in place, replace them with the new ones lube all the moveing hand brake mech with cooper slip

Put your new disc on and tighten up the hand brake shoes (opposite to loosening) I think ots 6 turns or untill you can just feel resistance when spinning the hub

Anyone recommend a good set of discs and pads any certain makes?
 
I went for ebc (oem spec discs) and ebc red stuff pads all round, nice disc pad combo good bite and was a lot better than what was on there

I think I got the lot inc handbrake shoes and sensors for under £200

Euro Car Parts - Fronts were Pagid as were the pads. £70 all in.

Work fine.
