brake calipers

hey guys, finally i have 4 days off work with nice weather since i got the zed :D my first little project is to paint the brake calipers, ive gone with speed yellow. anyone got any tips ?
 
Wire brush any rust and other rubbish off the calipers and hubs.

Clean the calipers and hubs thoroughly (i used spray/aerosol brake cleaner - dries instantly so you can start painting straight away)

Have a couple of brushes of different sizes so you can spread it nice and evenly using a larger brush onto the open parts of the caliper, and use a small one to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Dont paint your brake pad clip thing in place.

Dont paint the back of your brake pad.

Spread the paint about - thin coats rather than thick - too much paint and it dries a bit "toffee apple"

Lastly - take your time!
 
You can spray them in situe if you can be bothered masking EVERYTHING, but because mine are steel calipers (so not smooth) youre not really gonna get a much better finish by spraying rather than brushing, i wouldnt waste your time tbh :thumbsup:

Did mine yesterday because my new wheels were being let down by manky rusty discs and calipers

Used aluminium paint. Always looks good I think

Anyone had any experience of fitting the Caliper covers you can buy???

Looks easier than painting old ones but they only glue on from what I can see so not sure how well they'll cope with heat. Given that I track mine I'm think this probably isn't a good idea.

I'm just about to put 3.0si setup on my 3.0i so thinking whilst I have the brakes off now's a good time to either paint or cover.
 
These are the best caliper covers i think as they allow for heat dissipation , prevent brake dust getting to the rims and are very easy to install. However they are very costly for a piece of plastic:

Thanks AP - Yeah they are expensive! :thumbsdown: I'd definitely paint over them. With a brake upgrade on the go and track wheels and tyres needed $200 for caliper covers is on the bottom of the list! £30-£40 maybe! Thanks though mate. :thumbsup:
 
Looking good beetelgav! Pauljb1 I used foliatec brake caliper paint and lacquer. Got it from amazon. Took roughly 2 hours to do and all day drying
