brake caliper problem

Hi all,

After a brief search on the forum I cannot find anything on this particular topic....

My 2010 Z4 was making an awful sound when braking, and pulling away very sluggishly so I took it straight to my local BMW servicing department. They have said that the brakes have seized and the car needs new brake calipers. My first question is this acceptable after 30k miles?? Secondly they cannot source the part. The car has been with BMW for 6 weeks, thankfully they have given me a 3 series as a loan which they didn't have to do as the car is outside of its warrantee, but I would much rather have my own car!! They have no idea when they can get the required parts. Any advice??

Parts should be available next day for nearly all brake parts.
What model ......Age is the Z??
Not sure why you have waited 6 weeks without some challenge and full understanding of what the issue is with parts or repair completion time?
Brakes can seize do to lack of use (low miles)as well as wear and tear with higher miles

Wow! sounds crazy. it only takes a few hours to fully refurb a seized caliper with new pistons and seals etc. You wouldnt need actual 'new' calipers.

it's a 2010 3.0l auto. It has most definitely not been thrashed mostly spent tootling up and down motorway to and from work. Apparently they no longer make to 2010 brake caliper and won't fit a reconditioned part. I would like to go in and read the riot act but am concerned they would pull the loan car as they have told me I am not entitled to it as my car is not under warrantee....
