Got a set of pedal covers off Ebay (M performance reps) which were surprisingly good looking! Genuinely, these things look ace! They're slipovers like the standard rubber ones so don't require drilling.

So excitedly went to fit them and discovered that my pedals are a totally different shape
In the pic below, they're just hanging there and obviously too loose to use.

It seems in my car the bottom is way narrower.

Now I'm down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out which genuine pedals I need and whether or not the same shape ones would still work (as the genuine ones are drilled and bolted in - so the actual brake pedal being a touch smaller shouldn't be an issue provided it has enough room for the drill holes).
I found these ones on a store which look to have the brake + clutch exactly the same shape as my pedals - it is also less the side slanted rubber design.

Looking on realoem, I can't even find a rubber pedal pad that is this narrower shape. I did find the part somewhere on Amazon and they were listing it as fit for a range of cars - all of which I did a quick search and saw only the squarer bottom type.
I then google imaged for 2016 M4 pedals and found some had square bottoms, some had tapered like mine
I don't even want this anymore - I just want to understand!!
Anyone got any thoughts insights? I was thinking perhaps it's a difference with manual/DCT (as I believe DCT in newer cars come with a small brake pedal vs the wide one for auto...).
Also, what pedal shape do you have?
