Brain fart: Coverting a Z4C to a Z4MC

....... a FrankenM is going to be a technically difficult money-pit and hard to re-sell.

in a nutshell, unless u want to be buried in it similar to the Vikings

Probably easier to buy an MR and make your own Coupe shaped hardtop!

A far better idea would be to fit the S85 V10 from the E60 M5 / E63 M6

Hahaha, yes that would crazy both in terms of performance and reliability... I might have silly ideas... but I ain’t that mad!

Feckin ell, not a bad job considering it’s a roadster!

Anyway, yeh I think my M conversion idea was silly anyway - to be honest I prefer keeping everything original... unless it was something outrageous. M6 V10 in and z4 would certainly be interesting tho - I gotta say...

But if I’m gonna do outrageous... then maybe a a custom built 4 wheel drive system, with two engines... one in front, and one for the back... a bit like the Audi bi moto TT they did a decade ago... should be easy job right?

Anyway talking of engine transplants - fascinating what this guy has done... a 2Jz in a z4c

Good watch - guy knows his s**t

A bit off topic... but how u finding the m3 over the z4c? Does it feel as special? Obviously performance is probably another world right? Would u ever go back to a z4c

Was thinking of buying an m3 before I bought z4c, but just didn’t feel as nice when I sat in it. Obviously - performance, can’t complain about...

To answer your question - no and no.

The M3 is not as special as the Z4C. However this isn’t actually a bad thing.

In the M3 you sit higher, it has 5 seats instead of 2 and the cabin is quite airy unlike the driver focused cockpit of the Z4C.

Sit in a Z4C and you instantly know you’re in a sports car, sit in an M3 and it feels like a normal 3 series with some extra M badges (which I presume is what you were alluding to).

However, the M3 is a lot more comfortable than the Z4C, in fact towards the latter stages of Coupe ownership I found the car quite tiresome, especially getting in and out of it was a bit of a pain. And although the 5 seats takes away a bit of the sporty edge, they have come in handy and I have been able to enjoy drives with the lads again, as opposed to just my Mrs.

The main difference between the 2 cars is the performance, in particular, the engine. The N52 is smoother than the S54 however cannot match its beastly nature. Also the sound of the intake in this thing is just another level. There’s no other car out there which produces this sound (bar a Z4M) of course.

You don’t really notice the difference in 0-60, however 60-100+ there is a BIG difference. Also in the corners the LSD just makes the car a lot more controllable. It’s weird to explain but the chassis also feels more balanced despite being a heavier car...

I’ll say that if you’re thinking of ‘upgrading’ and can live with the 2 seats then you’re probably better off getting a Z4MC. However I’ll still take my M3 anyday.

The only car I see myself selling this for is an M2 Competition...but then again I have a feeling that my 17 year old M3 would provide a more engaging experience.

[ref]R60BBA[/ref], yeh I hear ya. When I sat in the e46 it just felt like a standard 3 series. Had a 350z previously and tend to rent out the out supercar every so often - just love sitting in a proper 2 seat coupe whatever it might... that whole enclosed feel is great. Saying that always wanted an m3 e46.

Anyway yeh - I’m thinking z4mc more I think about it. If I had the money, the standard m2 would do me fine! Or the 1m.

Thanks for the comparison
