Boxster v E89

Still looking for a new toy after selling my zed - went to look at a 3.2S Boxster - old (2002 ) but one owner and low miles ( 41k ) £8k -
looked good ( apart from wheels needed refurbishing ) a good professional detailing plus wheels could bring it up to my standard - went like a bullet and the sound of the engine was to die for . Wasn't impressed with the interior compared with the BMW finish and the biggest problem was trying to fit my 6'7" in it but still tempted - its a true sports car !

Very tempted also to go for a 3.0 S drive - found a grey BMW approved one with very low miles - manual ( 59 reg ) but nearly ten grand more as you would expect . Have yet to test drive so am currently in dialogue with the garage to ensure its worth the trip to go and view.

Difference in money obviously important but as I'm ancient , mortgage free and not destitute I could afford it but something tells me the S'Drive is a bit too tame compared with the Porker - the advantages are a BMW warranty , a better finish and I can fit in it !! and on paper almost as fast !

Thoughts ?

hmmm this a for sale section, probably be better in the general topics under e89?

Other then that BMW all the way.

Probably right - should have put in E89 general topics but too late now unless a moderator can move it. I stand chastised.

If you were looking at a 986 go for a later one 03 up face lift car, glass rear window glove box and better lights

i came from a 2.7Man 986 to 23i Auto and the BMW feels faster. refinement/comfort and finish is way ahead in the BMW. technically i should have gone for a 3.0 but fell in love with spec of this one. i drive it daily so again the Z wins on every count
the only car i would have instead would be a face lifted Cayman PDK. but you are looking at another 10k on top of the Z for that

Get the Boxster

While it may handle better.. it looks worse, has poorer tech and is more expensive to run. If you want 'badge kudos' go porsche. If you want a good all rounder, go e89.

I have just swapped my 2009 boxster (2.9) for a 28i z4

Both are superb cars:

I think the Porsche is more sporty, but not necessarily faster , the engine sound on the boxster is better and I think the cabin feels more refined.

My z4 is very comfortable, incredibly well specced, nice to drive , fast enough , looks better than the boxster , but to my mind feels a touch cheap inside.

The real killer for me on the boxster was the running cost , in the last 2 years I spent

£800 on a service
£1000 extending the warranty
£200 on the oil change
£1000 on tyres

I allways wanted a Porsche glad I had one, have no regrets about swapping it or a z4

Z4 all the way for me, I wouldn't care how the Porsche drove it just looks pants in comparison and the interiors always appear to look a bit tacky and basic to me.

Tim.

For me untill Porsche 2013 bosxter came out I would never considered it but
I think the new bosxter is just better

Way to expensive in all aspects, but it's a sports car

Totally different drive the boxster mid engine, my 987 2007 from new had all the toys including remus and SRP and 996 GT3 throttle body and plenumb upgrade... currently in Z4 2012 3.0 litre and is more refined and more than happy considering the price of a new basic 981
For me with the service pack makes sense, free servicing for 5 years
as the other poster said the boxster servicing is pricey to uphold full PSH indies are the way to go is you get one... all in all the E89 is the better car... love the growl of the six :)
