BOXSTER or ZED..?

in every other department its way behind & being a Yorkshireman the figures have to be added up at some point .
I suspect if both cars were parked together sense would prevail & the BMW wold be going home with you , could be your meds making you head back to your Boxster days
I would push the budget up and get a newer Boxster tbh
Having had the 987.1 its a very capable car. Roof and electrics aren't up to the BM standard but the drive grip and handling are great.
Of course what about the 981? a quantum leap from the 987
The E89 is a much more modern car in all respect than the older Boxster's so a different proposition all together !

He only had it up until today Andy, traded it in for his new car, nice guy, now had he been able to wait until next week....

No but it had cruise.....
It looked a peach, 1 owner, garaged, cheap.

A 981 is the goal but I can't stretch to one just now, I've seen some nice 987's around the 45k mile mark with nav, cruise, Bose etc, look very well looked after, are they really enough of a step up from the 986 to warrant the extra spend?

Having owned two 987 and one 986 before that I would honestly say its quite a bit better, slightly more spacious as well. On that subject and putting everything else aside the 986 will feel cramped after your E89, are you sure you want to go for a smaller car?

Yes the 987 is a much more modern car and a significant move forward. Revolution a great Porker indy have some good buying tips.

I can guarantee one thing John, you stick all that money into a 12 year old 986 and you will be crying in your soup when it's sale time... And I reckon that would be pretty quickly...
The 986 is a great handling car, but beyond that it's a reptile with styling and ergonomics to match...
Let's not get into the crap engine and gearbox quality...
A 987 is much better but still holds the poor drivetrain until 2009...
Would I risk it ? Not a chance, IF something does go wrong, the amount of cash you would have sunk into it to get it right again will have you back at 35is money and 10k in the red..
If you see an old Boxster on the road now they just look absolutely gash, they have aged badly and I think getting out of your current car and into one would be a huge disappointment..
Stay safe, get a Z with the spec you want and be happy that if bought shrewdly then financial pain will be kept to a minimum and you will have hours of low cost fun

I have to agree with the above, its why I ended up with a zed and not a 986 last year. At the time I thought I would regret not going back to a 987, never mind a 986 but to be honest I haven't really felt that way. As an "out of left field " option have you considered the Auid TT roadster MK2. Much better than a MK1 and a decent drive (even though its front wheel drive)? I'm not saying they are the last word in reliability either, but they are a damn sided cheaper to fix than a Porsche!

I would stick with the 28i and enjoy it John, the older Boxsters are mostly tatty and dated, even a good one will be hard to give away soon. due to the IMS/RMS and various other issues. Was a bad time for Porsche, like Mercs of the 00's.
I would keep the 35i I'm still not convinced in the grand scheme of things that a 28i would be greatly cheaper to run, yes it will be slightly but I feel if running costs are really such an issue then get a Hyundai i10 and then your laughing. From the comments an older Porsche would worry me slightly even if it does have a FSH, but then you takes the gamble with any car.

Well you've all talked me out of the 986 anniversary, they don't all break but yes fair do's lots do and if it did, the spend would indeed have me crying in my soup. :lol:
