Bought a coupe, few things need sorting

Thanks to the forum for the intro to the seller, super chuffed with this, my first Z4, looking forward to tidying up a bit.
Things on my list (please shout if you have any useful details / suggestions of where I can get this stuff / get it sorted - I'm near York.

1. Device or specialist to get out of transport mode (I think battery's been dead, AC and fan speeds don't work). I don't have a Windows XP or Windows 7 computer so wouldn't be able to use the device I've heard mentioned a few times.
2. Headlight washer cover (eagle-eyed among you will spot driver's side is missing).
3. Key fob battery change (one doesn't work, unsure if it'll need re-coding when I put a new one in?)
4. Full service, gearbox and diff oil change
5. CSL wheels - going to try 18s rather than 19s, but still haven't got the offset and widths I know will fill the arches perfectly. I think it's ET38 8.5J front and ET45 9.5J rear.
6. Tidy up calipers and hubs aesthetically, poss change discs as braking feels a bit 'pulse-y' at slow speed
7. Sort out a device to connect my iphone (with no headphones jack) to the car (which has an aux port and bluetooth, but I believe the latter is useless) for music and calls
8. Small dint in drivers door removed
9. Water pump replaced just in case
10. Retrofit cruise control

Before you change the key fob battery(which involves some soldering), make sure that battery is actually dead. When I got my car only one key was working, so I assumed it was the battery, but when I changed it I discovered it wasn't the battery, it just needed recoding to the car.
I used this guide: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33506, method 1. I found I had to code both keys one after the other in the same process, otherwise only one would work.

Seems like a nice car!

I would start by charging your key fob on a toothbrush charger and see if that helps initially. I did this recently when I picked up my E86 and had one flat key and it seemed to work.

Welcome to Coupe ownership.

When I bought a headlamp washer cover from Sopers of Lincoln they offered to paint it for another £15 but I foolishly declined that. The paint cost me almost that much so I'll know better if there is a next time.

The battery in the dead key may just be flat. They only charge when they are being used and it probably hasn't been for some time if the car battery is also flat! The suggested toothbrush charger would be a simple free fix!

Good luck with your list.

Spending £482 on a change of (auto) gearbox oil and diff oil at an independent triggered me to review my original list!

1. Device or specialist to get out of transport mode (I think battery's been dead, AC and fan speeds don't work). I don't have a Windows XP or Windows 7 computer so wouldn't be able to use the device I've heard mentioned a few times. SIMPLE FIX, INDEPENDENT GARAGE TOOK IT OUT OF TRANSPORT MODE, CHARGED ME £50 BUT SAID I CAN GO BACK FOR A FREE DIAGNOSTIC.
2. Headlight washer cover (eagle-eyed among you will spot driver's side is missing).
PAID £50 FOR A NEW GENUINE PAINTED ONE OFF EBAY.
3. Key fob battery change (one doesn't work, unsure if it'll need re-coding when I put a new one in?)
SECOND FOB HAS STARTED WORKING AFTER USING FOR SOME LONG DRIVES - NOT PERFECTLY, BUT NEAR ENOUGH AND HOPEFULLY GOOD ENOUGH AS A SPARE. WILL REMEMBER TO KEEP USING PERIODICALLY.
4. Full service, gearbox and diff oil change
DID THE ENGINE OIL, OIL FILTER, AIR FILTER, CABIN FILTER MYSELF.
PAID AN INDY £482 TO DO AUTO BOX (WITH NEW GENIUNE SUMP AND INTEGRATED FILTER) AND DIFF OIL CHANGE.
5. CSL wheels - going to try 18s rather than 19s, but still haven't got the offset and widths I know will fill the arches perfectly. I think it's ET38 8.5J front and ET45 9.5J rear.
GOT SOME 19" CSL REPS OFF THIS FORUM AND AM DELIGHTED WITH THEM, AM WAITING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A GOOD PHOTO.
6. Tidy up calipers and hubs aesthetically, poss change discs as braking feels a bit 'pulse-y' at slow speed
BOUGHT FRONT PAGIT DISCS ON THE AMAZING OFFER SOMEONE ON THIS FORUM POSTED ABOUT, MAY FIT MYSELF AND INVESTIGATE CALIPER.
7. Sort out a device to connect my iphone (with no headphones jack) to the car (which has an aux port and bluetooth, but I believe the latter is useless) for music and calls
ORDERED A BLUEMUSIC DEVICE AFTER FINDING THE CD CHANGER CABLES VIA THE BOOT USING A REALLY GOOD GUIDE ON THIS FORUM. ALTHOUGH I ORDERED THE BLUEMUSIC ON 9TH APRIL AND IT STILL HASN'T TURNED UP.
8. Small dint in drivers door removed
JUST GOING TO LEAVE THIS FOR NOW.
9. Water pump replaced just in case
ON THE TO-DO LIST, ALTHOUGH THINKING IT MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE AS IT'S NOW ON 103,000.
10. Retrofit cruise control

ALSO DONE:

Fitted access covers under wheel arch (two randomly missing)
Fitted oil sump access cover (randomly in the boot!)

ON THE T0-DO LIST STILL (showing some restraint here as a few things tickle my fancy!)
11. Sort out wobbly wing mirror glass
12. Vanos solenoid clean / service / replace if necessary
13. Brake fluid change
14. Expansion tank
15. Disa valve service / repair kit
16. Belts
17. Rocker gasket
18. Coil packs, plugs
19. Hunter alignment
20. New suspension components e.g. lollipops that may be causing a bit of wandering
20.

8. Small dint in drivers door removed

Do let me know how this gets sorted. got some dents here and there. Definitely has bothered me for the past year that i owned this car but didnt bother to look into this yet

Where did you take it to sort out transport mode? Mine's coming out of storage next week after a long time in hibernation, and I want to get Transport Mode turned off asap. New battery arrives tomorrow. MOT + service next week.

2. Headlight washer cover

I did this on mine. But check the actual washer is working ok. If it is, great. The washer cap attaches to the washer. Just take the hit and buy an OEM cap. It’s comes black, so you will need to spray it. Do it yourself. Easy. Getting the cap on is fun. Two options. Have someone activate the washers, grab it when it appears and hold on to it when attaching the cap. Other option is to remove wheel and access panel in the arch. With a long screwdriver you will be able to push the unit up to the hole and grab it. I did it this way myself.

7. Sort out a device to connect my iphone
If you have CD prep on the car, then I recommend looking for a BlueMusic device. Somewhere in the £45 range. Was lucky to get one off a forum member, but well worth it. Just do a search on the name.

If not done already, sort out the wobbly mirror glass next.
It's about to fall out and smash into a million bits and maybe scratch your bodywork on the way out.

Funnily enough I gave it a splodge of gorilla glue at the weekend, first proper test drive tomorrow.
Interestingly it wasn’t the glass coming off the plastic, it was lower half of the circular plastic mount that wasn’t fastened at the bottom to whatever is behind it.

GOT SOME 19" CSL REPS
:D I was just about to say this! Both of mine fell out the same week. I'd literally noticed them wobbling the day before.
