Bought a boat at last....!!

Well I’ve scrapped any plans for a 718 after this beauty turned up yesterday, I’ve been looking for a good few years for a Byliner 742 in immaculate condition with low hours and full spec list so when it turned up, I was on the phone like a cat on a sparrow.... Cheeky offer had to be upped a little but deposit paid and it’ll be mine on Wednesday all being well. It’s in Poole harbour which isn’t too far away from Plymouth where I was going to put one so all’s good. Very very excited...!! :trampoline: :trampoline: I know they can be a bit of a money pit but this class of boat has a reasonably economical engine....for a boat..... and will easily pull a skier with 7 on board. I’ve had a couple of boats in the past but not for donkeys years and I just think life is for living so what the hell, do it now, no good when I’m 70 and can’t get in the bloody thing right....?

Very nice John.

I've had a couple of river boats and know what a money pit they can be. Good fun while the sun shines :D

Is this part of your back up plan for when global warming kicks in, a bit like Noah and his devious plan.. :D Looks very swish

Like Smartbear I know nothing about boats but that looks very smart indeed. Excuse my ignorance but will you be able to use it at sea as well as on rivers and lakes?

Thanks IRD.

Yes it’s for the sea, no plans to use it elsewhere tbh, I just love the coast and we can tour around in this with fuel stops planned. A nice cruising speed is 25knots, very similar to mph, sounds slow but not on water plus you don’t have bends or traffic so good progress is made. This will do almost 40knots flat out but drinks fuel at that speed like nothing else. At 25knots you’ll get 190 nautical miles out of it per tankful which is 130litres.

My neighbour owns a boatyard not that far from Plymouth if it ever needs any work John

Cheers muchly Mr B.

Tbh though I should be able to do any work myself, servicing and maintenance on the engine is bread and butter stuff, the bellows are easy to change once the sterndrive leg is out, not a difficult job, and a once yearly hull polish in my rented workshop. But I do appreciate the nudge sire.

All I know about boats is they cost money whether you use them or not with the berthing fees according to the guy that owned the dive shop I used to go to.
Looks a nice boat though.

Don’t buy one if you’re not prepared to pay berthing fees...simples. :D

I’ll keep it for 6months in the water in Poole or Plymouth then bring it home for winter and weekends nearer home.

That looks really smart John.

Your toy box is growing!

My elderly Glaswegian neighbour once told me she lived in "a boat hoose"

Just assumed she'd lost her mind since it was a suburban semi. Then she told me she'd paid off her mortgage...

Congrats! What's the engine note like? 😂

I might organise a lads forum weekend next year Fred, boat will take 8 people. Water ski, ride on inflatables, swim off it, have a beer from the fridge. :D

Had a few Speedboats,John,Fletcher's and the like, but got a couple of mates who are Bosun's/Yard Managers at local Marina's,and been around a few different boats over the years.
Nice looking Bayliner.
I always liked them, despite some people not (got the nickname by some as Binliners). But they are actually good boats.
Enjoy.

What's in it,V8 Mercruiaer 5ltr engine or what?
What size and year is it John, around 23/26ft late noughties, early tens?
