Boston / Cape Cod / New Hampshire

OK, so after my jaunt back to the US this year, I realised how much I love that place (thanks IMZ4N!) and how much I want to visit other areas again. And this thread helped me decide what I wanted to see:

So, have now booked flights in and out of Boston in September/October next year.

Am going to do 6 nights in Boston (have found a great place in Beacon Hill), then looking at driving up to see the foilage for 3 nights, before finally driving down to Cape Cod for 5 nights.

So, I'm happy with the Boston & Cape Cod locations and accommodation, but am after advice re: oop north. Have been looking at North Conway, but just wondered if any more tips/areas etc?

I'm probably doing it the wrong was round, i.e. we should go to Cape Cod before the foilage trip, but it makes it easier for us (relaxing 5 days at the end of the trip before a short drive back to logan).

So any advice guys and gals?

Plus - any tips on what to do? Have got a few ideas such as the Conway railroad, whale watching in Provincetown, and a trip to Martha's vineyard, but other help would be appreciated.

Take the ferry from New London to Montauk on the eastern tip of Long Island. Montauk is great (but quiet). Stay at the Surf Lodge, they got a decent club, and the place is affordable (like most places in the US) outside of NYC.

The roads are dead boring tho, it's all flat!

North Conway is a big destination for the fall foliage. The railroad is nice and there is a lot to see and do around North Conway including taking the Kangamanga Highway over to Loon mountain. It seems you have a lot more time for smaller concentrated areas this time around. Boston is a great walking town with much to see. My two cents having been a local for 30 years of the area, six days might be little too much in Boston as well as 5 nights at the Cape. This is a much smaller area to see than the distances you traveled in California.

There is method behind my decisions this time.

The 6 days in Boston - we don't arrive till 17:10, so that rules out one of them and we've got a really good deal on a 6 day package (actually had a great one on a 7 day one), and to be honest, its cheaper to book this package than say 4 days in another lodging/hotel. Likewise with Cape Cod - we'll not arrive till about 6pm so another day really out - driving down from the North, stopping off at a few destinations on the way down, and using the Cape as a base as opposed to a destination if you get me.

Take your comments on board though.

Your going to love Boston, and again you will have everything at your doorstep so you will really enjoy not having to drive some distance to see something. There is too much to see to recommend any one thing, USS Constitution, the aquarium, Fanueil Hall (spelling), Freedom Trail, Quincy Market and Little Italy. The list goes on. A good Goggle search will decide your interests.

There are lots of cool places to check out in the mountains in NH, but it kinda sucks that you won't get to see the poor old man of the mountain that fell apart despite many efforts to prevent it from happening. Boston is a great town, with lots of great shopping and restaurants and plenty of things to see and do to keep you occupied. The cape is better suited for hanging out and relaxing on the beach unless you'd rather jump on a boat.

Either way, you should have a good time. I grew up in NH, and have lived in Boston almost 6 years, so if you have any questions let me know.

The link is good, and is now bookmarked. Still not determined exactly how/what we're going to do - only confirmed at the moment is the 6 nights in Boston. A major bonus today too as we've managed to upgrade our flights to premium for only £150 return. Saved us a fortune in all honesty - glad I didn't upgrade 2 weeks ago!
