My only gripe really is/was the lack of PPE which sounds like its been run down over the years notwithstanding that we ere due anytime soon a pandemic, maybe if the gov't had had their eye on the ball in this respect thenm death rates in care homes and NHS workers themselves might have been lower, who knows.

Tim.

I think 90% (or even more) of care homes are privately owned & run, so the government wouldn’t be responsible for their ppe requirements Tim?
Rob

I think there lies the problem Rob, I feel the Government classed community care workers as basically second rate behind key NHS workers, hospital staff etc, same with GP/clinics etc so maybe infection rates as result of lack of PPE to care workers looking after the most vulnerable may have impacted more than it should have? Having said that hospitals were crying out for PPE as it was.

Tim.

None if us are in possession of all the facts - what advice was given, how it was qualified, what advice was taken and what was followed, watered down or over ridden. No doubt there were immensely hard decisions to take with all sorts of trade offs and compromises to wrestle with - exactly why leadership is hard. History will be the judge of how well we did. Perhaps more so than in any other crisis we will have many examples of different approaches to learn from.

Charismatic and occasionally amusing he may be but he's way too flawed and self centred to be called a great leader imo.

You just described Churchill

His record wasn’t perfect !

Exactly. In fact his early record was very dodgy, and the grateful public couldn't wait to get rid of him after the war, but he proved to have the right approach for when we needed him.

What concerns me about Johnson is that he puts his own interests above others and is willing to lie in order to further those interests. These are not the Churchillian qualities we need in a time of crisis. I don't believe Churchill regarded politics as a game, I think Johnson does.

The great mans own grandson (Nicholas Soames) has said there is no useful comparison to be made between Johnson and Churchill - he should know. Others who know him have been damning in their assessment of his qualities and suitability for high office.

Maybe the fact he came close to death with Covid 19 has changed him, that is the best I can hope for.

I don't think anyone in the NHS or the care sector will think he has done a good job.I am not saying comrade Corbin would have done any better, but at least he would have the excuse that the Labour Party have not been in power for the last 10 yrs.
Careful what you say, I almost got lynched for speaking badly about him. :o

What a thoroughly entertaining thread. Got to love any one who can be the route of such material, even if they are as self cantered as the steering on an old Citroën
