Bored today and running out of jobs to do on the Z whilst the snow clears.
Decided to tidy up my front engine brace struts (I realise it won't be every ones taste.......) they look tidier than they did :)

Actually, I quite like that

Be interested in how the heat of the engine affects it, but a nice wee mod !

I will find out in due course. The vinyl wrap likes a bit of heat generally so should be ok..... Fingers X'd

Looks good!

Have you considered giving it a clear coat on top for some extra shine?

I am in the early stages of wrapping....... still getting the hang of it. I never thought of clear lacquer on top.......... may experiment with that.

Tried wrapping a wing mirror the other day..........crashed and burned.

Toe-side, I've found that getting the material hot enough makes it easier to stretch (mind you I've never used carbon!)

Yes you definitely need heat. There is a 'fine line' when you stretch it under heat as I keep finding. Every thing good...........then.... oops not so good. :( I also seem to always need another hand to manipulate the wrap.
Just a matter of practice and perseverance I guess. There are some great video's on you-tube. They make it look easy!

Will the nuts hold those braces as tight with flexible wrap on them as they do with metal-to-metal contact? Those nuts do loosen on their own.

Good point
I cleaned the vinyl off on the underside and added a thin washer on the top to avoid tearing the vinyl (the original nuts also have a built in washer fitted) torqued them down.
Your right though they will need checked as they 'settle down' after some miles applied.

good idea  i like it.

did you use the 3m vinyl or just generic ebay stuff?

i bought the ebay stuff and wrapping my centre console in it. even the heat from the sun made it peel. the 3m stuff is supposed to be a lot better.

Yes its the cheapo stuff. Did not fancy learning the wrapping skills with good stuff.
From what your saying I may have to repeat the process with higher quality stuff. I 'll keep people posted, although it may be a while before the engine is fired up again.
Like your black 107's btw. do you have any photo's?

Thanks
Looking good.  I take it the satin black finish was it commercially done or a DIY job?
The lowered look is great too.
Food for thought! Mine z bright silver and the satin black would look a treat.

the previous owner got it done at lepsons i think, so a pro job (powdercoat).

silver always looks good with darker wheels!

Looks good. As mentioned earlier, the nuts coming loose may be an issue over time. Maybe a drop of blue loc-tite on the threads? The next step will be a cross brace with matching wrap. :fuelfire:
