Bootlid operation, soft-close

The boot doesn't need to be slammed. Proximity sensors activate motors which power close the last half inch. Difficult to describe but easy to understand once you've seen it!

Basically just drop or gently close the boot and it clicks closed even from a shot height. But as Titan says when you see it you know what it is. If you just drop the boot lid with no great force it wouldn't close but with the assistance it does. It's great because on my E88 the constant slamming of the boot could cause the boot latch to have issues caused by the sensor being disrupted and sometimes not latching on.

hmm that actually sounds pretty classy. If only it worked the other way round - I always liked the automatic opening of my A4's boot. Thanks both!

Got my fingers squashed in my first e89 as though the boot wasn't shut so went to open it again to give it a slam!!
Jesus that hurt, you only do it once though

For whatever reason (better known to only BMW) the e89 has no remote boot release facility either via a button in the cockpit area, or on the key fob.
I can only assume that it is due to the complexity of the double hinge system which forms part of the roof operation.

EDIT - Doh
Of course there is a button on the key fob ....

Both our Zeds have had a boot release on the key fob.
Car has to be unlocked in order for it to work but it does pop the boot open about 1/2" or so to enable you to open it fully.

Thanks Gavin
Of course they do!
Edited my post accordingly.
But there is definitely not one in the cockpit for EU builds although I believe the USA models do.

I wonder if we can retrofit the US style boot release in the driver's footwell? It's I suppose for security so the boot is inaccessible when parked top-down, but how does the US version deal with that?
