The other day while out in my 2003 z4 the speakers started to crackle. I thought nothing much of it at first then it got slowly worse. I open'd up the boot and took out a couple of jackets which were wet through. Anyway i pulled out the cover over the battery to see the battery and the very expensive amp swimming in water. I couldn't believe it and wondered how or where all the water got in. I took the battery out and sponged the water out very carefully. I then dryed it out and took the extension lead out and plugged in the hair dryer and gently on a low heat did the best i could to dry out the amp. I re attached the battery and hoped for the best. I then turned on the car radio and was disappointed to hear the dreaded crackling and very unhealthy noises coming through my speakers.
I left it for a day or two and then went out for a spin. I turned on the radio and luckily for me no noise from the speakers and everything sounded as it should.
I think i may have been very lucky in the fact that i just caught it before i cooked the amp.
Now all i have to do is cure the leak. Umm, i did find a slight crack in the third brake light lens ?
