Boot/trunk won't open after roof issue

Ah. Ok there both BMW diagnostic software programs that you can put on a laptop. They might have an option on them to trigger the boot lock.
Not having an E89 i don't know if that option is there.

Just been to the dealer.. Says they can do it 1h30 of work... Unfortunately I'll have to wait until the 24th to get a RDV..
If any answers come up before then, they will be welcome..

1h30mins just to open the boot? Surely it’s a ten minute job with their kit to force open! Maybe you’ve got an indi who can handle it? :?
Once it’s done I’d rig up a manual cable release just in case.
Rob

Hoping there won't be too much "forcing" involved.. 😲
I thought that 1h30 would cover getting the roof back up too.. A manual cable release would be a idea for sure.
Independant dealers are few and far between here.. Back in good old blighty there is much more choices open

Here you go, shows how to “force” the boot lid via electronic command (no crowbar) :P

Thanks Smartbear, so reading through that the forcing is just using the service diagnostic to get the boot open and the same emergency actuation from the service diagnostic. This is nothing I can do....?

oops sorry, late night on the phone

let's see the right one ...

a tricky one, I couldn't find tailgate/trunk/rear lid/boot wiring, which could help reverse engineering the boot signals' path to somewhere

I did find out, that the JBE doesn't play any part in boot functions of the E89

Thanks..
I have no solutions..
I have a rdv with the BMW dealer 24 June
Also been taking with Robert from Munich who used to be a forum member on here... He and is contacts are definitely the most knowledgeable for sure..

A solution will be found but it won't be a diy operation by me...

Ah ha. I assume you mean RobbiZ4? If so, it's good that he is still happy to help.
Give him our regards and tell him he is missed!

I will do.. ..After the forum split up I think he is still a bit like the Fuhrer in the Downfall parody so it will be easy, easy with him.
I may be seeing him depending on whether it can be organised... He certainly is the best breakdown man for Z4 roofs...

Update: The boot opened yesterday and the roof now works..... I heard the boot motor when I unlocked it. What a moment of joy.....

So there is a big, intermittent issue.

Will be looking at this replacing with this

rather than my present model

Wanted to thank all those that chipped in with help and ideas..

Glad everything has worked out for you. Along with quite a few others on this forum I have the SmartTOP module fitted and have had no problems.

Well I hope that fixes it.
All that trauma, just so you don't have to hold your finger on a button! :poke:

It frees up a finger that can be used to force the boot open :)

Thanks guys. Well it was a big relief. From stress to joy in one moment. Luckily my Z4 is garaged and I have another vehicle.
I have heard from 2 others that had no issues with the Reinhold unit and 2 who have had issues. I wonder if it was just my installation. A different unit is another £250 so reluctant to invest in another at this time..

For £250 a time I'll happily pop over and hold that button for you.

Fit a manual boot release in case history repeats itself, it sounds pretty stressful
