I tried removing the lining on the bulkhead in the boot to get access to the centre console to fit the tv tuner, but there's a cable that comes through the liner and had a pull type handle on the end that prevents the liner being removed. Is this the back up latch release for the roof clip? Its in the centre of the bulkhead area.
As it doesn't fit through the hole in the liner, i guess i should just cut the hole a little larger to squeeze it through?

Cut a cross through the hole to push the pull cord through, undo the 4 black carpet clips and lift up rear lining.

As above, if your careful you won't ever see the cuts so not a problem.
 
I just cut the bit of string

With the theory of if I ever need to use it I will remove the carpet to pull it

The string is actually to access the cubby should the lock driver fail.

Please tell me more! You fitting a digital tuner? I have the analogue TV which of course has stopped working now. Was quite a cool feature for traffic jams/sitting in car parks waiting for the missus etc. so I'm interested in getting it working again.

What hardware are you using? Last time I looked into this most suppliers were being bloody greedy asking mental money for a tuner. I started thinking about a £20 freeview box via an inverter or a 12V freeview tuner made for camping/boats/caravans etc. but haven't done anything about it yet.

Would be good to know what others are doing. :thumbsup:
 
Well I was actually looking at fitting the analogue TV tuner first, but yes, I intend to add freeview as well. I dont have the freeview box yet, but have found one for £90 that has two aerials and claims it works at motorway speeds, and has a USB input for pausing/recording TV or playing video files.

From my initial quick look, I think I'm missing the TV/Sat Nav DVD link cable, so will need to order the retrofit kit, but as I have no garage, I'm in no rush to be working on the car outside.

Its called Eonon V0018.

The company make all sorts, including full replacement headunits for BMWs (not z4).

What's your reason for fitting an analogue tuner? Transmissions have ceased now haven't they?

Yep, looks good. I found this thread, a couple of people have fitted it to E46 and report it works well even at high speed should you wish to allow passengers to watch TV while driving.

I'm getting it for Xmas, so will fit early next year. Haven't decided on ariel locations yet. Thought I'd try them in the boot/bumper skin, but if no good, inside the A pillar plastic, so hidden from view.

You need the analogue tuner to add the freeview tuner, as the analogue tuner allows for other video inputs. Only mono sound, but I dont understand this, only through front speakers or a single side??

Feeding the CVBS out of the digital tuner into the aux in on the analogue tuner is a quick and dirty solution but not the only way to do this. It can be done neatly by replacing the analogue tuner with the digital tuner (they both output the same audio and video signals once the terrestrial transmission is decoded).

Mono audio still comes out of all speakers it's just single channel split equally as opposed to 2+ channel stereo. Just means you get identical sound out of all speakers and no fancy strereo 'panning' effects.
 
I dont see how, seeing as the analogue tuner has bmw specific output connections, without doing some splicing and wiring there isn't a way to plug directly in...?
