Boot Swimming Pool?? (Large Leak)

Good Evening Forum!

Hope you're all well, there has been a reasonable amount of rain over the past few weeks and I went to put something in my boot after one particular downpour only to discover that the boot was soaking. After removing the bottom cover I then found that the battery was having a spa day. The water appears to be coming in from the left hand side somewhere but I can't find a hole for the life of me. Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on finding the cause of this? Would like to get it sorted before winter comes!

If there's anyone in the Leicestershire area that could help (I'm at uni in Loughborough) that would be awesome but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Although its hard to see theres about 2-3 inches of water in the bottom)

Cheers

Matt

I had the same after leaving my car facing up hill, they don't like it and will wet themselves.
Plenty of threads on here about it, I just never leave it facing up hill now.

Ahhh ok thank you, ill try and have a look around. My drive is pretty much level but sometimes it seems to let almost all the water in and others it'll stay dry. Very odd.

1) Looks damaged/torn. Not sure water would get through here but maybe source a 'new' one from a breakers.
2) I'd give this a good clean out with a brush/pressure washer. Get someone in the boot with a torch or set your phone on video in the boot with a torch (I've done the latter !) and play a hose pipe over the boot area for several minutes and check for leaks. Also are your hood drain tubes clear ?
3) These self tapping screws (2 or 3 each side) that hold the taillight surround in place are known to leak. Mine did. They screw into a nylon female block that weathers with time/age and then let rain water through.
Also check the neoprene gasket on the back of each taillight unit and the boot ventilation slots just below them

Excellent advice, in my case both the self-tapping nut was leaking (10% of the problem) and the boot vent (behind the carpet - 90%) were leaking. Both parts sorted the problem for approx £10 from dealer :)

^^^^yep, bang on. The final place can be around the seal on the boot mounted brake light, esp if the lens is cracked at all.

Drill a drain hole in the bottom of the battery well. Its only a plastic shell and theres nothing underneath it so it can drain straight out. Obviously you need to find the entry points but this is a life saver if you have an Amp sat there next to the battery
