Boot shelf won't lower - help!

Hi guys, I have an issue with the luggage shelf in the boot (the one that has to be lowered in order to fold the roof down).

The left side won't go down, the knob is very hard to turn and no matter how hard I turn it, it's just stuck.
The right side knob turns freely as it should.

Any ideas on why this might be? Has anyone else experienced similar?

cant say ive experienced this before but if its just a bit stiff then a bit of wd40 and some elbow grease would always be my first point of call.

Might be worth having a look at the video here and taking it apart to see the mechanism

Has your roof motor been relocated ?

The shelf raises and lowers on a hinge, the parcel shelf is attached to the hinge by some snap over clamps on the shelf clipping onto the hinge bars, and is secured with two or three small clips, I have known these clips to come loose and get jammed in the hinge . If you look under the shelf and tap along the hinge / shelf edge gently , you should hear any loose clips rattling around . If this is the case then simply replace the clip as per the right side .

If you roof motor has been relocated.......I've seen them fouling on the pipework to the motor .

I'm not sure on the motor as I only purchased the car a couple of months ago from another member.

It definitely feels like something is stuck, rather than being being stiff so I don't think WD40 will work.
I'll have a closer look tomorrow and report back!

Just push the whole shelf back into the car. My left side wouldn't go up after the roof motor was relocated. Basically the parcel shelf had moved slightly towards the boot opening preventing the hinges from moving. I simply pushed the left hand side of the parcel shelf back into the car (only an inch or two) and it now works. Its difficult to describe - but take a look at yours in the daylight.

That's a good shout Colin , OP what Marlon is describing above is generally caused because , the parcel shelf has on its back edge ( against the rear of the seat/ boot wall ) a small 1cm square tab moulded onto the back edge in the middle of the shelf . This tab slides up and down in the micro switch channel , If you look on the back wall of the boot in the middle you will see the switch channel ,There is nothing holding the tab on the shelf into the channel , and sometimes the shelf can bounce out of the channel and jam up , it may just need jiggling back in . N :D

As a side note when i relocated my motor into the boot i cut the left hand side plastic piece that stays in place when you remove the hinge, So that the cables can be routed enabling the shelf to operate as it should.

Yes that is what needs to be done , but not all people do this and I've had several people asking me to sort issues out after relocations that haven't had that done .

I tried this earlier but it didn't work. The left side of the shelf actually won't move forward or back at all.
I tried the right side and that moves a tiny amount back and forth when pushed.

Interestingly there is a wire hanging down on the left side with a round black thing attached to it. I've not noticed it before, but will try and get a picture later. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my issue?

Quick update for those interested, all fixed now by M Technik Sutherland in Bristol. Turns out it was just a couple of missing clips.

I'm glad it's sorted , however ..... Your shelf will operate without and clips at all ! Missing clips wouldn't affect operation . The shelf not being clipped into the hinges correctly would though , or as I said before a clip jammed between the shelf and hinge ........... My point is I just hope they didn't sting you much for fixing it ?
