Boot locking issue.

Hi folks,

Just traded my old silver 2.5i roadster in for a sapphire black 3.0i SE and am now working through the obligatory niggles again (i.e. 3 watt headlights and a dead roof motor... of course... but it did come with an immaculate hard top, bag and bits 8) )

This minor niggle's got me stumped though and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

The boot unlocks fine using the remote, the key or the switch in the driver's footwell.

However, when I try to close it, the boot latch cycles and pops the boot open again. If I press on the lid and hold it down, it will cycle 2-3 times then lock.

The boot will stay shut on the first attempt if the car has been centrally locked and then I close the lid.

I've replaced the footwell switch and the boot latch mechanism and fiddled a bit with the striker plate and it's made no difference.

Do I just have to find the striker plate sweet spot, or am I missing something?
 
When I changed my boot I let the boot find the sweet spot as you put it. By nipping the catch up and then closing the boot it moved the catch to the appropriate position. The catch was then tightened an checked.

I may have a spare catch that has the electrical connection if you get stuck and find that no amount of adjustment fixes.
 
Thanks srhutch, I'll give that a try.

So if I understand correctly, you loosen off the striker plate (catch bracket as BMW call it) just enough to allow it to move, then close the lid on it.
Reopen the lid and it should leave the catch bracket in the right position so you can then fully tighten the two torx screws and the job should be done.

Did you do any adjustment on the trunk lid lock?
 
Ok, so now the footwell switch has stayed stuck in after pressing it (gently) and it's as if it's now disabled, but on the plus side the boot shuts first time... :roll:

Is there's some sort of user setting in the car's computer that could be causing this?
