boot lid

should the little springy thing be attached to the little hookey thing?

I've just been out and checked - no it shouldn't be. The post rests against the spring when the boot is closed. When you remotely unlock the boot it is that spring that lifts the boot slightly.

hmmm i wonder if it can be adjusted my boot is an arse to open when wet as there seems to be nowhere to hold onto to open it. it barely lifts at all you cant really get your fingers into the crack.

thanks for the answer

To achieve that the best solution would be to add higher pressure gas struts that would cause it to lift open fully.

ah yes hadnt thought of that, any recomendations on where/what to buy

You could just bend the spring ends up a bit. Gently. Maybe ?

I'd start here: http://www.sgs-engineering.com/

Some of the guys I talk to with Jag XF's wanted their struts to lift the boot more and these guys regassed them.

I'm sure the spring could be bent slightly, but it would need to be removed from the car to do it and risks simply snapping.

Good point, and if I did it that is likely exactly what would happen

I don't see how higher pressure struts will help raise the lid an initial extra fraction of an inch when using the electric release. All we need is a little extra lift to enable getting fingers under the edge. I didn't understand the complaint to be the lid was too heavy, for which high pressure struts would be the answer. The angles aren't right for them to help with the initial fraction of an inch.

Whether bending the spring would work depends on the material. Cheap springs are somewhat ductile and can be reformed to some extent. Better springs will snap before they can be reformed any reasonable amount. May be another approach would be to fit a sleeve over the pin on the hinge bar so that the spring is compressed a bit more. May be just enough to allow finger purchase under the edge.

BCW - I guess it all depends on what you want to achieve.
Higher pressure struts will make the bot lid open fully each time you press it, or just lift it a fraction. All depends on how much you change the struts and the temperature on the day (Boyles Law). Guys I was chatting with used this company as they wanted to approach their XF's and one press of the button have the boot lid spring fully open, however there was inadequate pressure in oem struts to lift it more than a couple of inches. Problem was easily solved.

Certainly agree with you re the idea of sleeving the spring or probably easier to sleeve the piece pressing onto it, but having taken a quick look I just don't think the spring is up to doing any lifting.

I agree, the only thing to do with the spring is cheb it off for a better one, I don't think there is much that can be done. I'm not convinced the gas struts would be any better when the boot is just cracked open due to the angle they are at. Maybe they might help as it lifts but for me the problem is just getting it going and not with it opening.
