Boot Lid and Boot Access

Hi,

While thinking about all those jobs I have been planning to do during the winter layup, I have started to get paranoid about locking myself out of the boot.

Having followed all of the tales of woe, I started to wonder what I would do if something like that happened to me, since I do not have a ski hatch nor do I have an emergency release - my E89 is EU spec so doesn't have the "body in the boot emergency release".

I then stumbled upon the following Youtube video - https://youtu.be/OhD02MDAznE

Take a look and marvel at the improved access to the boot area once the lid is locked open preventing it from latching.

Apologies if it has been mentioned elsewhere, but it was such a revelation and head slap moment to me when I realised that I've seen this trick done on other cars to annoy owners and I didn't think of it to avoid being locked out of the E89 boot.

Cheers!
Andy

The simple way as I can confirm I pop the bonnet and apply 12v to the red start jump lead with the other to car earth..all systems come alive..simple..

I think we're talking about disconnecting the battery and then accidentally closing the boot lid. As it's a motorised latch it needs power to open it again.

Locking the latch out means you can't do it while the car is unpowered.

I must admit that the video with the whole boot open gave me a few moments of OMG! I don't think I'd be brave enough to do it. Looks a bit fragile to me.

It’s strong enough to operate while the cars in motion, i don’t think this will harm it whilst stationary
