Boot gas strut pair

My boot isn’t lifting or closing as I think it should.
Assuming the springs are correctly positioned in this image then I think maybe the struts are shot.
My friend told me that I should buy genuine one as aftermarket ones may not be good or last.
Cotswolds want £123 for a new pair, far more than I expected.
Anyone have any that work well or can recommend alternatives from experience?

Those springs just help pop the boot open enough to get your fingers underneath to open it.

I just get the part number, pop it into eBay and get those. The one's on wifey's car have done 4 years so far.

I’d just plump for a well reviewed one on Amazon. They are cheap and if they don’t last more than a few years just buy again.

Sorry buddy, I'm going to have to withdraw that. Just went to check them and I'm not confident enough of the condition to sell them mate. Pretty sure one of them is weeping (although they did work fine when I stripped the car). Must be on their last legs.

Please tell me you use Fakespot if you are using the reviews on Amazon? I’m astounded how many of the items have fake reviews. Even sometimes ‘Amazon’s choice’ and especially anything with ‘promoted’, or indeed under promotion, with heavy discounts at checkout.

I bought OEM for mine when I replaced but at the end of the day cheap ones are about £15 quid. If they solve a problem for 6-12 months what’s the worry?
