Boot bags

Thanks Andy, the old military road is a bit too much of a detour this time around but its on the to do list. Thanks for the other suggestions I will check them out. I've been reading yours and other members thread on trips to Scotland - there's a lot of useful information on here. By the time we set off I will have a good idea of which routes to take for days out. I'm already thinking of the Fort William - Mallaig for one of the drives.
 
You have loads of good roads Marlon. You will be staying on the "Kingloch" ring anyway from your description and as well as the Mallaig road you have a circular road around Oban from where you are which is a good drive as well.

I would also recommend a Skye trip. Three hours there and three back or of if adventurous you can make this a round trip as well coming back through Contin, Muir of Ord, Beauly and down the Loch Ness road from "over the hill" rather than Inverness.
No matter which way you go I am sure you will have a great time. :thumbsup:
 
You will be glad you dont have time for the military road, Im sure thats the road that was washed away with the floods.
If Kinlochleven is as far up as you are going then as Mefi said the Oban road is a great road and is a favourite of ours.
Just travel to Ballachulish then onto Oban and follow straight through towards Lochgilphead A828 then A816. You could detour to Crinnan canal to see the boat locks. From Lochgilphead A83 continue through to Inveraray and then to Tarbet A82 and down the side of Loch Lomond.
Longer road back but much nicer than straight back down the whole of the A82
 
surely this thing has got to scratch the paint?? i like the idea however and think its a cool look seeing a tiny roadster loaded up to the hilt.
 
Just take less stuff and with the £90 you've saved enjoy a few more plates of haggis & neeps washed down with lashings of single malt.

I never had an issue but always make sure the boot lid is totally clean before laying the anti slip mat onto it.

I did actually mean that it seems to have been raining since the start of November not that I was part of the drunken Scotsman myth.

Take less stuff? Your only going for a week and the boot on the z is huge! I bet you won't use half of it anyway.

We've been away for a week self catering several times using only the boot space, but then once we arrive we have to unload and go shopping for groceries. For this holiday we are planning to take most of the food and groceries with us so that we don't have to go to supermarket shopping. Hence the boot-bag idea to give extra space in the boot for all the food. :)
 
I wouldn't risk a long journey to Scotland and back and possibly scratching or denting your bootlid with the holdall for the sake of a 10 minute run from your cabin to Morrisons in Fort William ! Save yourself £90 and you will also get better overall MPG on the journey.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that Mrs Marlon is preparing most of our meals before hand (bakes, pastas, curries) so that she doesn't have to cook while on holiday :)
(I might even take her out for the occasional meal too :wink: )
 
My boot-bag arrived today. First impressions are that its a high quality product, the bag is made of a strong heavy duty material and all the fastenings are solid. The Velcro flap covering the zip goes around the whole bag and is about an inch wide. On a dry day (lol) I'll give it a test on the car.
 
:D I'm trying to control my Poll 'urges'.
I didn't fancy a metal carrier - they cost more and I didn't like the idea of clamping it to the boot.
