Boot badges

Seems my rear boot badge is past it's best, I had it masked off today (yes, low tack proper 3m masking tape!) and removing the tape took a chunk of the badge with it, leaving the silver backing.

Now, are the copy badges good enough? The difference between £6 and £32 for a simple roundel badge is excessive and I'd rather not waste money unnecessarily

£32 for 1 or 5 for £30 ? I would go for the cheap one and replace as necessary. Copy ones are never as good but as you have shown you can get 5 for the cost of 1. Genuine is not 5 times better! IMHO of course :?

The copies are a little different in colour when compared with new oem badges. But they're a lot cheaper, so it depends on whether you get hung up on little details or not

I think if you have an original and masking tape took some of it off... It's sort of telling you that it's not quite worth 5x the price

I've got copies though not all copies are created equal. First set I had disappeared after driving in the rain, leaving just a chrome backing haha.

The second one I got has been good for 3 years either way, hard to justify getting a genuine one. My 2c.

Bit OT, I have an OEM one from my dads old BMW that was scrapped when I was young. That badge is made of solid metal and is painted or coated in some sort of ceramic. I've been tempted to restore it and put it on the Z as it's the right size iirc... But perhaps its a bit too cool as a vintage piece for that 8)

This was the boot badge on my 2010 E89 when I got the car. I replaced it with an OEM version at £30+ This was after buying some centre wheel caps from eBay which didn’t fit properly and were crap. I’ve learned my lesson and now only use original BMW products. Sad I know but it keeps my OCD happy!

I just replaced all four badges (E89 trunk, hood, and side fenders) with original BMW. Paid around $135 and later saw the originals can in fact be had for a bit less if you shop around. My trunk/boot lid badge was in the worst shape of the four, probably due to Southern California sun UV. Hopefully now good for another 8 or so years. I will need to get a sticker one to put over the steering wheel badge, as that is an unremovable part of the airbag cover.

Ok that needed changing.

Happily mine still looks like new, after eleven years and 70 k miles.
