They can sometimes "soot-up" a little which can make it a bit more mellow. I don't know if it would reduce drone though! My tablet has a cack speaker and just distorts.

I have had aftermarket exhausts fitted to previous BMW's, (not a Z4) and found that if anything they become slightly louder over time.

That was my experience, I hope on this occasion yours 'settles' to the sound you require.

I have been told that as well that the more they soot up the deeper and louder they get...

I was in a Magnex exhaust group buy for my TT and everyone who had bought,some 14 or so of us, all commented that they got louder the longer we had them..
 
Sounds good.

My TT Miltek got slightly louder over time.

Probably why I'll end up going for Sport instead of Race with the Z4.
 
hmm i might get in tought in a few months and see about having a mid silencer fitted

a valved design in the rear silencer to lower the tone! lower RPM the valve will be closed, higher RPM and the valve opens!
