Bonnet stuck closed

Hi All,

Bonnet has randomly decided to jam shut

When I pull the lever in the cabin it pops just the one side!.

Anyone else experienced this ?

Cheers

The cable inside the sheath looks to get very dry indeed. I too am concerned about this and I am looking into whether there is any oil that can, via capillary action, seep from the centre where the ratchet is located and lubricate the cable inside the sheath on either side.

I got mine stuck once because i turned the rubber bump stops too high. So there was no give when pulling on the release lever. Once opened try winding the rubber stops down a touch.

I squirt aerosol oil down the cable occasionally & work it so it travels through, it can’t do any harm :)

I had one of the catches seize up completely on one side once; I ended up getting BMW to sort it out - it took them a while apparently :) #ratherthemthanme

So...

Managed to fix this myself in the end!.

Didn't fancy driving the car with a stuck closed bonnet in case of emergency.

Removed the front left kidney grill and bent back the trim around the rad, managed to just about get my arm in and pop the other stuck bonnet latch.

Once I had the bonnet up I could see the cable had dropped out of its locator so there was too much slack in it to function correctly, Good ol cable tie came in handy last night.
Will figure out a better bodge soon.

Cheers
