Bonnet replacement

Evening all

Has anyone replaced a bonnet on a 2003 Z4? It’s one of my next jobs but wasn’t sure what to look out for as I have seen a fair amount of mention of alarm sensors, etc.

Thanks.

The actual alarm switch is on the car, not on the bonnet itself. Should be very easy to swap with a helper or two.

The rear bolt on each side is in a slotted hole and the bonnet weighs next to nothing.
So you can slot the bonnet into the rear bolt then pop the front one in.
Alignment may take a little longer but it's basically getting the hinges sitting right and maybe having to adjust the front stops.

Oh one more for you.
BMW helpfully didn't paint under the bonnet, so you just need to make sure it's shiny side up. 8)

Don’t forget the restraining cable

You look a right t1t when you undid the bonnet but it won’t come off the car because of the cable

and make sure the new bonnet is not from a facelift model - they have two side catches rather than the one in the centre

Without double checking, I think the centre hole is still there on facelift so I wouldn’t discount without double checking.

2004 bonnet going on a 2003 car so should be fine. But good to know what the difference is for future reference.
