Yesterday, my car gave The Bong of Doom. The one that BMW in its infinite wisdom designed to tell us everything from 'It's cold outside' to 'Your engine just died and is unrepairable.' In this case, it was 'Your screenwash reservoir is empty.'
You know the rest. (Despite previous copious lubrication of every part of bonnet release I could find, lever had little resistance and bonnet just wouldn't open.) So, called SWMBO, told her to pull the lever ... 'Where is it?', 'I can't find it', 'It's not in the same place as my Fiesta'. 'Still can't find it', 'Why don't they put them all in the same place?', 'Where is it?' ... you know the script ... until I walked round and showed her.
Then, when I told her to pull lever and hold it, I pushed my index fingers in the narrow gaps between bonnet and headlights and ... instant 'Bingo'.
Now, 20 hours later, just tried to open it 3 times (without the wife) and ... no problems. Resistance on the lever and bonnet 'popped' open. So, the key question, of course: why wouldn't it do that yesterday, but opens 'normally' now?
