Bonnet Release issues

Hi guys, after a bit of advice please.

Have had a problem with the bonnet release on my z85.

Basically it wouldn't open!

Today I got it open, removed the mechanism, deep clean with brake cleaner and an old toothbrush. Re lubricated with copper ease and reassembled.

Got it working correctly when off the car but the main latch spring in the wrong position. This was intentional as with it in the right place the forces appear to be too big????? Re assembled with the springs in the right place and it worked!

Got it working correctly when bolted in, using a screwdriver to set it in the locked position.

Reassembled everything and tested, and it worked. Tried again and it didn't!

Arghhhhhh.

The cable pulls okay but doesn't seem to pull far enough. Is it possible or known for either of the cables to stretch? I also checked the jointing sleeve behind the drivers headlight and this seems fine.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. Unfortunately your cable has stretched. Had mine done last year at independent. Don't think there is any adjustment so had to replace. :headbang:

Any idea how much? Which cable did you have replaced?

The one in the engine bay or the one from the interior handle?

Affects pretty much every Zed. Mine wont open unless I get a helper to press down on the bonnet slightly while I pull the cable.

I did this job on my E36 last year & it was a bloody nightmare. The Z4 looks like it will be a lot easier.

The cables aren't adjustable but they aren't expensive & neither are the catches so you needn't worry about the expense of changing them.

On the E36 I found it was very beneficial to remove the front wheel & arch liner to access the cable for a guiding hand.
