Hi
folks having trouble getting the bonnet to open ,the only way to do it is to have one person press down on the front of the bonnet while some one else pulls the leaver a few times till it clicks then it will open .I phoned my local garage BMW specialist he says it is a common fault with this make of car ? .Anyone else had the same problem if so can it be easly fixed :tumbleweed:

yeah mines pretty stiff.. when i had the bmw assist bloke out he oiled up the joints when he opened it and it got a lot better.

I have this problem with mine. When I reached the two-man opening stage I started lubricating the mechanism and it's back to normal now.

I gave the mechanism a couple of sprays of WD40 and then operated the catch until it worked into the joint. It's back to normal now and I've added the process to my routine maintenance schedule.

Mine used to be slightly stiff to 'pop' so i lubricated with motorcycle chain lub as this sprays on nicely and doesn't dry up like WD40. If yours is very stiff WD40 it first as this is the better penetrater then chain lube it.

  this post could get out of hand and buy the way mine is also hard to pull the lever but nothing as drastic as getting someone to help open the bonnet pops open fine

Mine was the same, a dob of grease on the mechanism and a few pulls on the lever and it is now fine. I guess it's open to the elements and corrodes up a bit.

nope.. indicator bulb decided to stay on permanently with the ignition off, which was flattening the battery. when they got here we couldn't open the bonnet either. he didnt seem surprised, lubed the catches and spent the next 2hrs messing with the bulb.
