Bonnet glare

Driving west, into the sun, in the afternoon yesterday, the glare off the bonnet was bad, to the point of being dangerous, even though I was wearing sunglasses. Raising & lowering the seat didn't help much and the sun-visor, although it cut out the sun, obviously didn't help with the bonnet. OK, it didn't last long, but it was the first time I can remember being unsighted by my own car.
 
We have this on the A68 in the evenings on a regular basis, I found polarised sunglasses were a big improvement over normal sunglasses...
 
Have to take care sunrise and sun set.. I can recall a few occasions of total unexpected blindness caused by combo of sun and other things. :o

Blinded by your own Zed though. :oops: :lol:
 
Maybe scotchpad the bonnet to cut down on the reflections?

Polarised sunglasses are roughly £70.
Scotchpad roughly £0.10p

You do the maths....
 
Follow the latest craze and paint the bonnet matt black, like a fighter jets nose.

I was blinded by an ambulance that turned in front of me. The LED flashing lights on the rear were so bright, I couldn't see the ambulance or the road ahead for a second or so.
LED's are in the same class as lasers and you can see why after that experience.

Hey Buster, that is spooky, I was just considering this yesterday after an identical experience.
I wonder is some sort of non reflective wrap?
 
We're obviously not the only ones to have the same problem:

In the meantime, until I can think of a less ... er ... dramatic solution, less polish.
 
I have "drivewear" lenses in my prescription sunglasses, and they DO cut down on reflections and glare massively...

Exactly !! but when does the sun shine that much in the UK?
Seriously, I never had an issue with mine out here in the West and the sun is crazy out here. (I lived in Alberta and drove to Arizona frequently)

Its more of a function of higher latitudes with associated shallow angles of incidence that coincide with the position of the driver reference bonnet..!!!! :thumbsup:
 
My home in Calgary was roughly the same latitude as the UK, :P

I use Maui Jim sunglasses.... :lol: :lol:
