If that doesn't sort it I'd be a bit worried, something is not right.

Not on all, 2 outer on mine and a secure catch in the middle
Bing said:The catches at the sides are known for failing occasionally IIRC. There are 3 catches as said, but also two adjustable rubber stops with a spring loaded screw in the centre either side for pushing the bonnet up when you release it - these can be adjusted up or down. Could be the one on the right of the photo is set too high, or the catch has failed and the spring is pushing it up. The bumper itself looks square and level if you look at it relative to the headlights and wings, so worth a look.
This is what the rubber stops look like : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bmw-e36-e..._CarParts_SM&hash=item35bff6fccb#ht_500wt_689
Says boot on eBay, but this is what is on mine, one either side.

I'd assume most cars will not have 100% original paintwork, even some are refinished before they first owner collects them.
My bumper gets a rub-down & respray when the road rash gets too bad, and I'm sure a prospective buyer would prefer that to one that looks like a pimply teenager![]()
