so it looks like my bonnet catch is stuck and i ant get into the bonent.

for once my serches have told me how to sort this out and get it open..... get some one to lean on the front of the bonet while doing the catch. but if this doesnt work what next?

also how do you get the catch off the car to clean it up, do i have to takethe bumber off as it all looks a bit enclosed there.

if its the cable that shagged how does that come appart?

been looking on realOEM at the bonnet but its in $ not £ so is the dealer the only place to get new bits

I had the same problem a few months ago, turned out to be the catch on the bonnet had seized spring was pumped! If the bonnet is poping up when you pull the leaver inside it may be the same. Just as you say i leaned on the bonnet & got a plastic bar to try & eas the bonnet open. Hope this helps. Got a replacement part on ebay genuine bmw.

Remember the bonnet release is "two clicks" .. usually if you cover the catch in grease & work it, it'll become a lot better.

I had the same problem, when I eventually got it open I just cleaned the "gunk" and grease off off the catch (with a few cotton ear buds!) and sprayed WD40 on both ends and it appeared to have resolved the issue.

I had the opposite problem, mine would not close. I soaked it with WD40 and once that had cleaned the gunk of everything I then gave it a good spray of grease (the same I use on the steering joints).

Fitted new catch to bonnet with 3 torq screws.Very easy.Tryed cleaning old one up but the spring was broken. You may have a problem as some off the boys are saying with the catches on the front panel one either side, but if the bonnet is poping up on both sides, sounds as if it's the catch on the bonnet as i had.

get a piece if wood that slips thru the grill...push down on the cable. ...this takes up the slack...
get someone to pull on the relase catch short and sharp..
it will probably open...
give it a good clean and it should be ok
if it isnt...you need a new cable its stretched
sometimes just pushing down on the cable will pop the bonnet.... !!!

its not doing diddly s**t, tbf i was in the car park at work and it was dark, i gave it a good tug but it didnt do anything so i thought it best to leave it till i can look properly. i didnt want to force the issue and not be able to shut the damn thing.

so can you get the catch off wihtout needing to take the bumper off?

I pulled the left kidney grill out. Just push it up and pull forwards and it will come out easily, don't force it. If you need to force it you're doing it wrong (as in so many things!). That will let you spray wd40 up onto the catch. I did this once after getting the car and its been fine since. I added some ptfe lube a bit later, just to be sure.

WD40 has many great properties, but long term lubrication is not one of them. PTFE based lube is a good option because unlike conventional oil and grease, it does not attract dirt.
