Bonnet cable problem.

Recently, the bonnet has been very difficult to open using the lever. It almost felt like I was going to pull the lever off before the bonnet opened.

Also, it's become really difficult to close and kept popping back up whilst driving. Not a nice feeling when you're doing 50mph!!!

Had a look at the cables today and it looks like the cable that goes into the bonnet catch is knackered.

Is this the correct part I need (part 16, bowden cable)?

Also, has anyone changed one before? It looks as if it's a 2 part cable which connects near the drivers side headlamp.

I just striped my lock down last weekend , apart from the cable being stretched ever so slightly it looked like the actual lock was worn where the cable end fits.
I think ill be changeing the lock and cable very soon

Worth oiling the latch. The previous owner said the cable had stretched that it wouldn't release the bonnet. No doubt the cable has stretched a little but once oiled the release mech it started opening fine again. Didn't need to change the cable.

Lubricate the catch mechanism with WD40. Get it into the springs and it should work just fine. :driving:

The cable's definitely broken. I shall try and get a pic of it. It's not sitting properly in the locking mechanism, so it just floats freely.

I will give the catch a grease up though to see if that sorts out the lifting problem.
