Bought replacement bonnet badge about 3 years ago, genuine BMW.
Blue/Grey centre of badge colour is rubbing off.
Would have expected that from Chinese copy, not BMW.
So £70 for £10 quality.
 
I know what you mean. Been using cheapo ebay badges on my E85 and have held up well. Ebay and Ali Express so good for for trim and non- critical items.....but would not trust electronics, engine or brake items!
 
That's disappointing. :(

I'm not sure if E89s are the same but E85/86 ones are a unique size different to any other BMW model, so I had to buy OE when I needed a new one. It was £40 in 2019 but as I sold the car a few months later I don't know how long it lasted!
 
Yep, the genuine badges are pretty poor quality. I put new wheel centre caps on mine 3 years ago and they're in need of replacement again. Got Chinese this time and they look identical, at a fraction of the price. Will do all other badges at the same time.
 
Yes E89 is special size for some strange reason.
After look see if China do make good or cheap copy.

I can't understand why they can't make a good badge, it's their advert. A poor one if it fades or blemish.

Friend had Jaguar sport years ago, lovely car, but badges were water stained.

A good try at self-persuasion. Your friends are just too polite to tell you. And you can't hear the sniggers as you drive by. :wink:
 
The rear badge at least has a plastic coating, because it's handled, the front non to protect it, unless what i bought wasn't genuine.
 
Flybobbie, I would be taking that back to dealer for the reasons you cite; dreadful quality at extortionate prices. Disappointing.
 
Be cheaper for me to buy paint and re-colour it myself.
At least use some quality paint.

Beginning to wonder if someone has swapped it?
Came to car once to find wheel bolt missing and the trim cap i put on.

I walked back to motorbike one day at petrol station. I noticed indicator missing.
At best it should have been dangling by the bulb wires.
It was gone.
Someone must have taken it, why and when?

At least they were kind enough to leave you a non-genuine badge to fill the space .....

I better keep an eye on my new, genuine wheel centre caps before some oik runs off wth them leaving the wheels and tyres behind. :)
 
Yes i know very unlikely stolen and replaced, but never know these days.
Perhaps whole car was swapped?

My first choice of Z4 was the DSB.
But the grey undercoat shows all the stone chips, is yours like that?
So i steered clear.

Not as embarrassing as when the kids at school stole the lock and left my bike!

I have had five dark blue, one deep purple, one black and two burgundy cars and they all have had light grey/yellow primer. My current E39 was the only one that had significant road rash so I spent a few hours carefully filling in the chipped areas ten years ago and they still are fine now. I said back then that I would get the bonnet and bumpers reprayed in future, but never have, because the fear of mismatched original and bodyshop paint is a bigger concern of mine.
I don't do many miles, so haven't added to the chips, but to be honest flybobbie, it is not something I have ever considered, nor would it be a reason for me to avoid cars in the colours I love.
Perhaps you could get the front covered in a clear membrane, although I have that ahead of my rear wheels and it is so marked it looks horrible. :x

What colour is your car?
 
If I was going to replace my badges with new ones I'd be tempted to spray them with clear coat first to try to hold off the corrosion as long as possible.

Just buy a replacment on AliExpress. They are/where about £0.80, these are the stick on ones ....EVERY one uses them. Just make sure that the colours are in the correct order.

I have bought ALL the badges for my car from aliexpress ..that is bonnet, boot, wheels, wings with no problem regarding the 'size' . Just measure your badge first an then order them :)

In fact They are so cheap I ordered double just in case .
 
Have have stick on one now some several months.
I lacquered it first before sticking on.
Same as the wheel centre caps.
After various one's gone back to cheapo tin plate types but lacquered them first and seem to be as good as new some 2 years on.
Normally corrode bad come first winter.
