Bonkers prices in Holland

Frexample: £16k for a '06 z4m roadie with 87k miles on the clock? Steep.

Maybe if you undercut his prices you can get most of his projected customers indeed :)

But keep in mind the dutch BPM tax structure.
That car has about €1600-1800 on bpm tax paid for it (import duties), depending on when he put that thing on numberplates (if he's smart he waits for it until the car is sold, but it would take a few days for the customer to collect).
So the UK value of that car is £14500.
I dont know what that car costs in the UK but £14500 minus that amount is your profit. For that you have to drive it from the uk to NL (gas, eurotunnel etc), so that might be another £400 or so in expenses?

I know that RHDs are exported from NL, also to Russia where has lower import tax on RHDs , South America for TVRs is another. Direct export to down under is another possibility but plenty of competition on that one. Holland I"ve tried before, I think splitting RHDs over there or advertising parts in Holland where no BPM but still VAT if trade

as i understand it, bpm isnt payable on anything over 10 years old.
hence a tidy average mileage10 year old 3.0i selling for GBP4000 in the UK, minus overheads and selling for say €6-7000 in NL is still an attractive selling proposition perhaps...

I know prices are on average double over here in Holland for the equivalent cars in the UK but this is just hideous....
He's asking €9250 for a 2004 '2.2i S' roadie if that was even a model designation.
Looks to be in fair nick but that interior...omg...the wood trim. hideous.
And it's hoiked up at the back like starsky & hutch's Ford Torino!

GLWTS mate.
Bonkers.

Wow, that Mark T Plaats fella is having a laugh isn't he?

Seriously though, isn't the issue the taxes? I know tax on a new car in Denmark used to nearly double it's price, so used ones tend to reflect the much higher starting price!

And we used to think we got a bad deal on new cars in the UK!

I just put a z4 "03 into the BPM calculator. I"ll post the result when it comes in. It will only be an indicator because the system is based on imports from Germany, UK model will be a bit less if anything at all

No after 10 years the bpm is still about 7,5%
BPM is gone after 17,5 years.
And bpm is paid over the car and all its factory installed options (satnav etc). At least for the 2006 and earlier car settlement.
For newer cars the bpm is much less attractive as it is set by emissions and has a slower annual reduction.

There are btw more ways to reduce bpm. One is the annual reduction table (see below), but bpm can also be paid over the commercial value of the car. A lot of cars with damage are imported that way. But for a sportscar the reduction table is usually better. For a daily driver car from the same age it can be different (the differnce between the value of a z4m or a nicely specced bmw 535d is huge on the 2nd hand market (z4m much more expensive) but when they were new, the price might have been the same)

Danish car tax or registration tax as is, is at 182% of the base value ex factory and the higher the base value the tax % goes up as well

i get this for a 03 3.0i
Yes, but that excludes options and is for 1st of january 2003 (no models yet).

Say if I take my car (almost all options, list price about €70k, and is from april 2004) you get:
BPM berekening 2004
catalogusprijs (netto) € 43.569
BTW (19,0%) € 8.278
BPM (45,2%) € 19.693
BPM brandstoftoeslag € -1.540
BPM toeslag energielabel € 0
BPM toeslag CO2-uitstoot € 0

catalogusprijs (bruto) € 70.000

BPM totaal (inclusief leeftijdskorting 95.071%) € 895

i don't get it - now it's getting a bit ambiguous - u mean the bpm payable isnt necessarily fixed to the purchase price of the car, taking the spec/options into account? it has variance depending on if its a DD or not?

Ouch!

I only went there a few times on business.

Lovely country, but I was a bit surprised when I ordered a glass of vino in the hotel and it got charged at over £10 - still, that is what expenses are for surely? :D

Certainly won't ever be going back at my own expense - it wasn't THAT good!

Netherlands doesn't look too appealing now either.

No, I ment that you can also choose to pay bpm on the commercial value. And a DD type car will devaluate much more quickly.
So that might be an option if you import something other than a z4, like a large french sedan or so (devaluates like crazy), or something like a bmw 7 (also very hard on depreciation). But if you choose to go that route, it has to be an expert opinion on pricing.

ok so there could be an option to reduce it depending on your own intended use.
btw where did u get those figures from?
I'll be going through the import procedure for my own zed in February and was under the assumption i would be paying nothing or next to nothing re. import tax. now i'm curious.....
its an 03 3.0i bought for GBP4000.

No, never again would be my thinking too - unless the gross pay mirrored that of a Premier League footballer!
